All Cigar Discussion>Pepin Whores Re-Unite!!!
TomHagen 07:57 PM 02-01-2010
I had not had a My Father that was as good as expected... until the LANCERO!!

My Father Le Bijou Robustos haven't fully impressed either...

both lines of MF will need time to reach their true potential, unlike his other smokes which smoke great now, and grow better with age. IMHO

I can't think of a better place to ask this question than on this thread.. you guys are definite fans!

I am a noob and haven't yet lit up a Pepin. I am in the mild-medium range and enjoy a nice profile and smooth finish. Which Pepin would you recommend I try first?

thanks,

Mike

From your description, I'd reccomend the Fumadores from Holts, Vegas Cubanas or El Rey De Los Habanos, they're tasty, and come to mind as being pretty medium bodied.

For what you are asking about my picks would be

San Cristobal (the original I haven't had the del sol and don't know how they differ)
Mi Barrio (a little spicy at the beginning but pairs well with a beer to put it in that medium range)
601 Green (one of my all time faverites, more medium to full but if you have had a meal before you should be fine)

I am sure there are more those are just the ones that spring to mind right away. :-)

Are you talking about Pepin's personal lines or any Pepin blend?

I actually really enjoyed the Robusto and Lancero from the regular line, fine construction as always and just a real pleasant smoke

I would be interested in recommendations for both.

And thanks for all the recommendations already. I will be stopping at the local B&M tonight and will pick up a couple. I will let you know how it goes.

Well I had the San Cristobal last night and I must say I enjoyed it. Especially the middle third. Seemed very earthy to me. It actually went out on me as I made may way into the final third. This may be due to the fact that temperatures dropped like a rock last night. When I got home it was in the upper 20's. By the time I got done with dinner, etc. and got to the garage, it was 1 1/2 hour later, and by the time I finished it was 13 degrees out! Luckily no wind. Keeping it lit for the last third was a chore and I believe I over-puffed it and got it too hot and I started to get some hay tastes and biting on the back of tongue. I will certainly give it another try when things warm up.

Pepin and Miranda are teaming up for another smoke, the Nestor Miranda Collection Dominicano. Nic filler and binder with a Dominican wrapper. The wrapper is being grown on the same farm the wrappers for LA's 100 Años were grown.
