They are very different, Jeff. For example, if you were to go to the SF Culinary Academy, you would take chef and pastry classes separately. Most aspiring chefs will also take pastry, but it is not a requirement. Pastries are more of a science with the added artistic emphasis. I have never actually watched the show.
