Sports>Patriots Football - "We're on a mission"
VTDragon 02:11 PM 09-04-2009
Preseason is over and we survived without any major injuries.
Saddest part: the retirement of Teddy Bruschi, he will be missed.
Scariest part: seeing 350 lbs. land on top of Tom Brady. He seems to be OK though.
Most exciting: Brady and Moss haven't missed a beat... now this should be fun to watch.
Also exciting: Julien Edleman, (a Wes Welker clone it seems), Chris Baker, (look out for your job Ben Watson)
Should be a fun season, Go Pats!

New England Patriots Trade Seymour to Raiders? SAY WHAT?? :-)

NO KIDDING! I was half expecting that this was part of a 1-2 punch to get Peppers in... but that looks doubtful now.

No big loss, a lot of dog in Seymour and he did not play as an elite player the last few seasons.
Now the Pats have the cash to pay Wilfork and not have to listen to Seymour.
What I like about the Pats, is reputation don't mean jack, play hard or your gone.
just my .02

It gets rid of Seymour after he gave the Pats an ultimatum that he gets an extension or he walks at the end of the year. It frees up $3.6 million to sign Wilfork and helps with Brady. They took a first in 2011 which is after the uncapped year and when they think that there will be hard cap slots for rookies. They also have faith in their rookies who did look good even against first team players from other teams. It will take a year to see if they made the right choices.

With Richards contract coming up he would have been looking for say 25 million guaranteed signing bonus, Pats were not going to pay that.
One of the Pats strengths is the D line with a lot of depth.
The 2011 draft pick is all about the future, coach Bill knows what he is doing, I think :-)

Seymour had some good years, but his best are behind him and the Pats never were going to be able to re-sign both him and Wilfork for next year. No doubt that the trade hurts us a little this year, but I beleive it will work out to our benefit in the long run. In Bill we trust.

He'll show up eventually, (he actually has five days before the league does anything). He's probably looking for some extra perks in his contract.

Some observations after the terrific win against Buffalo:

Tom Brady was definitely rusty at the beginning of this game. Fortunately he got better as the game progressed and was his old self by the 4th quarter.

We are going to need to score a lot of points this year with our young defense, especially if Jarod Mayo is gone for any length of time. However - the defensive backs were better than I expected.

Maroney looked better than last year, but still not like when he was a rookie.

Randy Moss is as close to an unstopable receiver as there is in this league.

Just when I had give up on Ben Watson he comes through, TWICE ! Good for you Ben make a believer out of me.

Wilfork looked re-energized, maybe he is anticipating a big contract now that Seymore is gone. By the way, what was wrong with his sack? It looked like a clean hit on the QB to me.

Jets up next, hope the defense gets more energized.

Well, it just looked like the Jets wanted this one more than the Pats did.
Sigh....can't win 'em all.

What a stinker Brady played, all the pointing and delay of game calls, he could not hit a bull in the a$$ with a pass.
The funny thing is the Pats were still in the game and had a chance to pull it out.

Brother, don't wanna start nuthin', but you aren't giving the Jets new defensive schemes - and the noisy Jets fans in GIANTS Stadium - enough credit here. If the D is stunting, and your QB is unable to call audibles due to the raucous crowd, your offense will sputter, and you can get delay-of-games.

I think it had to be a frustrating game for both Jets and Pats fans in the first half. Neither team was hitting their stride and the game was right there for the taking for anyone that could show a little discipline and execution. It was almost like a stalemate of ineptness and the team that sucked less would not lose... vs. someone stepping up to win.

The Jets came out from halftime and seemed to fined some rhythm and had a couple of nice-looking drives before they started to fall back into an offensive funk as well. But it was enough to win.

While it could be said that both defenses were playing well, it felt more like the offense struggled to find any consistency for both teams. While D plays a hugh factor into that, there were too many mental mistakes vs. plays made on the field.

While I certainly want to see the Pats win, I can take a loss (with much swearing along the way) if the effort was there. I just didn't like it was this Sunday. :-)

Call what you will, you think that D is any different then the Ravens?
Noisy crowd did not matter, no place was louder then playing in Indy.
The way I seen it it was a bad offensive game for the Pats, and Jets treated it like their Super Bowl.
Congrats to the Jets for the win, but I think the outcome will be a little different come November 22.
We will get an idea how things are going to shake out come the 6th or 7th week of the season.

:-) I agree with all... as well I know a former Pats player that will vouch for the noise at Indy! :-)
