General Discussion>Layoffs / Cut Hours
ChasDen 06:09 PM 01-14-2009
Word at the shop is the next round of layoffs is coming this Friday :-)

I went to the owner this morning and confronted him and was told I was safe from the layoffs but expect reduced hours as soon as the end of this week. They are talking 4 day weeks, and we are lucky to get 8 hours a day now.

Oh well hopefully he wasn't lying and I can find stuff to do in the garage to make up for the lost day.

Got a phonecall from my mom the other night talking about her getting reduced hours.

Things are just beginning to trickle down the pipe. It's not looking too good but the bright side is you still have a job.

As for the free time...... :-)

For any of you wanting to help this wonderful BOTL out. Do yourselves a favor :-)

And help keep him occupied too :-)

My hours have been cut as well, definitely not a good time right now. Keep your head up, things have got to improve, I hope.

It is hitting everywhere. We have our 3rd layoff coming up with two last year. Keep your head up; provide value when you are there; and try not to sweat it too much.

In a way I created a "need" for me when they hired me. There was a product line they were struggling with and it has become my specialty. We make good money on it and no one in our branch does it but me :-)

But the problem is not just that, its business as a whole. Thinks are slow and we depend on the construction industry.

:-) Jordan at it again.

The plus side is I get an extra day in the garage to build every week so things should speed up :-)

All is well bro, thanks for the offer.

Combined the wife and I do better than most.
Solid middle class with lots of credit card debt, 2 car payments and expensive hobbies like cigars :-)

We have been discussing it for months in case it happened.
As long as its just reduced hours it may actually be a good thing for a while.

More time to perfect the "Chasidor"

I feel your pain, brother. I've been laid off since the first of the year. HOPE to go back to work, but also sending out resumes at the same time. :-)

Just remember: Don't look at all the cigar deals. It will only piss you off! :-)

I feel you pain, my wife and I have both had a 10% cut in pay, so that is a 20% cut on our household income. We are doing better than most, but I can only imagine how hard everyone else is being hit. I hope it turns around soon.

Were all holding our breath and waiting to exhale where I work as well.

The word is that the first round of layoffs will hit around 4500 people in this state and that will most likely be just the tip of the iceberg.

Right now were just waiting to see who gets hit first.

The thing that concerns me the most, is that this time, the hardship is world wide and not just national.

Take care

I just lost my Reseptionist because we couldnt cover her hours with only two of us in the office. got down to part time status and well, that didnt work for her. It hurts, I feel bad but just starting out, I cant step up and pay her full time right now.

Sorry to hear it, Hopefully works out for yas.

Layoffs within my company as well. They just shut a DC down in Canada.
