General Discussion>Help planning trip to North East.
rrplasencia 07:56 PM 01-06-2009
I know it's a little far out but i'll be doing Boston, Maine, and Canada in late July early August. Planning to start the trip in Boston on Friday the 24th or 31st of July and spend about 3 days there maybe 4. I have to go to some place called Bar Harbor in Maine (wife said so). We'll definitely take the ferry to Yarmouth, Canada for a day or overnight trip.

As far as Boston goes i've been before but would be more interested in meeting some Massholes, it's the one condition i've been "allowed" to put on the trip. As far as Maine goes any suggestions would be welcomed. As for Yarmouth I haven't been able to locate authorized Habanos shops, any help from botl's north of the border would be greatly appreciated. Not that i've thought about strapping cc's to my wife and kids like sticks of tnt. :-)

Thanks for any help you can give.
-Richard

well we can certainly help you out! I'm going out on a limb to recommend Churcill's Lounge in Boston so your missus can shop at Quincy Marketplace/Faneuil Hall while have a nice herf across the street! Sound like a plan?

Depending on you exact dates there are usually some pretty good free outdoor concerts that time of year.

Very welcome! I enjoyed Dad's a lot but Calabash is the better all around shop. Calabash is also very close to the Maine Mall in Portland. :-)

She can catch a whale watch from the Aquarium I think so you'll have hours to relax with some fine smokes.

looking for any recommendations on places to stay while in Boston. looks like it will be that 3-4 week of June. Hotel prices in Boston are insane, $240 for an embassy suites! i've checked all the major sites, any ideas would be appreciated. only requirement is that it be somewhat kid friendly meaning clean.

Boston is very expensive Rich...there should be cities just outside of Boston that might be cheaper...keep in mind that Boston is very small so getting around is easy...

Plenty of cool cigar shops and smoking places in Boston. Some of the oldest tobacconists in North America, are here in Boston.

I've seen decent prices in Newton, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, South Boston, and "Back Bay area". Should I stay away from any of these? I was trying not to rent a car until we leave Boston for Maine.

All are good places and prices. Boston and Cambridge should be all you need especially if your time is at a premium.
