General Discussion>A day of celebration, over a year in the making...
JE3146 07:23 PM 12-29-2008
In March of 2007 I was placed on Academic Probation in my College of Engineering. While I had over a 3.0 cumulative GPA in my University, the upper division Engineering courses had their own GPA and it is in that GPA that I faltered 2 terms in a row straight out of the gate earning a 0.85 GPA in those courses.

The next year was a very depressing one. If I received below a passing grade in even 1 class or below a set cumulative GPA as specified by my adviser, I would be suspended from the college. In engineering where everything is based on a curve, it was incredibly stressful wondering if each term would be my last. It didn't help that I had an adviser constantly telling me to give up and telling me I wouldn't amount to anything in the engineering world.

4 terms later (21 months later...), I now sit at a 2.41 GPA and received this letter.

Dear Jordan:

Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that due to your academic performance this past year you are no longer on academic probation with the College of Engineering.

All of us in the College of Engineering want to see you complete your degree and have a successful career in engineering. Please remember that there are many resources on campus to help you along the way should you find yourself struggling with a future course. The sooner you alert us to any difficulties you may be having, the sooner we can suggest resources and actions that can help you succeed.

Best wishes on your continued success.

Sincerely,

Jim Lundy

Executive Associate Dean, College of Engineering

Today is a good day. Thank you to all my friends on here who never gave up on me and just told me to keep moving foreword.

That's a testament to when you put your mind to something you can accomplish anything regardless of what others may be saying to you. Congrats on staying the course.

This is something that you can call upon the rest of your life regardless of the many hurdles you will face.

Make sure you take the time to celebrate this accomplishment perhaps with a special smoke :-)

I wen't through almost the exact same thing when getting my engineering degree. I ended up going on a co-op which helped me get motivated to finish. I also had my parents suggesting I switch majors.

Congrats for turning things around :-)

What are you smoking?

Congrats Jordan! I just had my first rough term as an EE too, but my GPA from humanities is keeping me afloat. Just keep toughing through it, it'll all be worth it at the end (or so they tell me :-))

So much for positive re-enforcement eh Jordan.

I hope you visit said adviser after you get your degree :-)
