Island (The other ones) Reviews>Man O' War Puro Authentico Maduro Corona Review
Outlaw God 02:19 PM 07-04-2013
$3. - $6.
5.0" x 42
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Habano Maduro, Ligero
Origin: Nicaragua
Shapes: Corona

Prelight: Cedar, sweet tobacco, cap has a little tail and unfinished foot, cigar is firm to the touch.

1st 1/3
Dark coffee, white pepper, spice, earth, toasted wood, slightly hard draw.
Sense coffee going across my tongue as I take a hard draw

Well behaved burn line, hard draw continues
The flavors remind me of a MOW Ruination #2 but muted a bit.

2nd 1/3
Coffee turning to espresso along with nuts, and toasted wood, white pepper is more hot spice like then pepper, draw perfect now.

Nice little theater cigar for that short intermission
(dam they won't let you do that anymore) :-)

Getting smoother creamier espresso along with aged leather notes and some light sweetness.

Final 1/3
Deep pepper zing note along with a hickory aroma, wood, semi sweetness and some N factor buzz

Great burn line and a slow smoke for it's size, not much more to report.
The cigar is dyed to give it a more appealing appearance but didn't have any of it on my lips or fingers

Smoke time 55 min
Score 8.5 out of 10

I really enjoy these.

Where do get the info that they're dyed?

I would be shocked if this cigar was dyed. Especially coming from AJ Fernandez. I'm not saying it isn't or it is, I don't know. But from what I've googled I've only seen this guy from cigar obsession calling it dyed and about ten others ripping on that guy for saying so.

I don't believe that these are dyed. Your own smoking experience even seems to indicate that they probably aren't.

I've smoked a few of these, and never had any indication of the use of dye in the capa leaf. Not saying definatively that they aren't, nor that Bloggy McBlogger didn't have something come off on his hands, be it dye or just the leaf. You get any of these leaves moist enough, a colored substance will come out of them, go toss a yard gar into a bucket of water and squish it and swish it around for a bit and see what happens. So, a bit of color transfer in and of itself doesn't mean that the cigar was dyed. If you want to see a dyed cigar, go pick up a 5 Vegas Gold Maduro or a Partagas Black.

The whole dye thing is often blown out of proportion anyway. The dye is actually made from the crushed down stalks of the tobacco plant, so you're just painting tobacco with tobacco (yo dog...).

Is he a joke, Peter? I've never heard of him.

I've had 5 or so of these, and they didn't have any indication they were dyed.

Just a another blogger. His opinions are no better than many of the folks here.
Having the ability and dedication to put up a blog doesn't make one an expert or even knowledgeable.

I don't go to any of those sites. I, like most, would rather read the reviews on here. No ulterior motive (ie: Cigar Aficionado)

I've gone through one box of ten of these cigars and just got another box of ten and have never had anything left on my hands lips or shirt, except for drool because they are so good.

I've seen a bunch of his reviews, and quite honestly, I don't hold much stock in his reviews. Not impressed.

Nice review Dan. This is one of the few sticks that I can honestly say the maduro wrapper didn't make it better (and I don't say that often). The original habano wrapper was a nice punch in the face. The maduro wrapper seem to mute the flavors for me. :-)
