I was in the car with a friend last weekend, and realized, when it comes to music, I'm stuck in a time warp!
If I'm in the car, I'm listening to Sports Talk, and if I happen to be listening to music, it was likely released in the mid 90's.
Any new rock/metal bands out there worth a damn?
I don't care how heavy the guitar is, but I prefer actual vocals instead of unintelligible growling.
Thanks in advance.

+1 on Mastodon. Love them.
Clutch is also quite good. Not exactly metal but nice and heavy.

LOL, good one Shane! I love Jon Lajoie, been listening to his videos for years.
I'm really loving the new Stone Sour album "house of gold and bones (part 1)"
as much as I like some of Slipknot's stuff, Corey Taylor's voice is more controlled when he sings with Stone Sour!

I am right there with you, Don. I guess I am getting old as there is rarely anything new that I like.
Protest the Hero - some slightly unitelligble lyrics. Mostly clear though. Intense band and all the members are masters of their craft. The #1 best show I ever saw. That whole Fortress album is fantastic.
He is Legend - Not really new, but a good CD just the same. Video is hilarious. Again, a little yelling, but the chorus makes it worth around the 1:10 mark.
Sleeping with Sirens. Some idiots will lump this in the emo category. Damn good band though and the vocals are different because of his range. The video is annoying because the song does not start until around 1:10.
Another Sleeping with Sirens song
A Skylit Drive. I like these guys for the same reason as Sleeping with Sirens. And yes, that is a guy singing. His name is Kellin Quinn and he has like a 3 octave range. There may be a bit too much yelling for you.
A Wilhelm Scream. Badass band hailing from the land down under. Singer is a badass. Saw them in Colombia, SC and he had a set of brass knuckles welded to the mic. Punk Rock sorta type music.

Rock & Roll died quietly in it's sleep after a long battle with technology and mediocrity.

Slash's band with Myles Kennedy on vocals is putting out some good stuff right now too.

+1 for wolf mother and Myles & Slash. If you want ac/dc 2.0 check out Airborne. Alter Bridge is Creed minus Scott Stapp and plus Myles Kennedy. They have three albums and all of them are really good. Audioslave is Rage Against the Machine minus Zach and plus the lead singer from Soundgarden, Chris something or other. They have several albums and all are pretty good.

I can certainly relate to the OP. In the car it's sports talk or "classic" rock, which is a mix of such a wide time range it seems ridiculous, but has the good stuff by and large.
I just listened to the Stone Sour video and liked it. I will take some of the other suggestions for a spin.

Thanks for the responses.
I have heard of many of the bands mentioned here.
I really only fell out of the loop 4-5 years ago.
Slash with Myles Kennedy, Volbeat and Airbourne are bands I will definitely check out.
Did some searching on my own found this bad:
Adrenaline Mob
They did a cover of
Come Undone
The Chick that does the vocals in that cover fronts the band
Halestorm
I also found
Foxy Shazam
It may be the KISS fan in me, but I love the kitch!
Reminds me of
The Darkness
I don't know how popular any of the stuff I linked is, but it is all new to me.
Really enjoying this, so keep em' coming

Adrenaline Mob is a pretty decent band, with some serious talent. Curious to see if they continue to put stuff out since it's not really the main gig for some of the guys. Need a good laugh about AM?

Dom, are you looking only for hard rock/metal? If you want something in just a really good rock band, check out Flying Colors. It's another one of Mike Portnoy's (ex-Dream Theater, Adernaline Mob drummer) collaborations. Steve Morse on guitar. Simply awesome.

I think there's some good stuff out there. You have to search out independent lables and self-published stuff. As Hugh knows, I've been on a Mott the Hoople bent myself. The only song you hear from them on the radio is All the Young Dudes, but everything they did was pure rock gold baybeee!
