Over the past few months I decided to do a bit of cleaning out of my humidor, smoking odd cigars that I've picked up over the years as gifts. You know the ones you get from friends that buy you a cigar knowing nothing about cigars or what you smoke. So I've had a Oliva Nub Cigar that I got for a gift in my Humidor for about 2 years. I've never smoked a Nub before and if I didn't get it as a gift, I probably wouldn't have bought one either. Boy have I missed out. The weather in south FL was perfect last night for a short walk. I thought what a perfect time to smoke that "odd nub." It was a great smoke for that 20 minute walk. I did a bit of searching this morning to see what other cigar manufactures make nubs. Is Oliva the only one?

No, there are others, but danged if I can pull up the brands into my noggin right now. Very rare is there a "new" idea from a single maker that doesn't get borrowed by others in the ceegar biz.

Some of my fav smokes, do you know which Nub it was? My personal fav is the Cameroon followed by the Maduro and Habano

Also I Highly suggest the Cain F Nub :-)

Studio Tobac=Oliva+Cain+Nub+Padilla(now)

There's technically only one true Nub, but many other companies are now making that ~4x60 size for sticks. JdN makes one of the Antanos in roughly that size IIRC, Viaje had the Super Shots awhile back, LFD makes a couple of their DLs in that size(DL 646 or something like that IIRC), etc.

Same thing happened to me. I love the maduro and the cain. Can honestly say I have not had a bad one yet. I have been trying to track down a dub nub but I guess they were a limited release and are pretty HTF.

"a great smoke for that 20 minute walk"

Wow, you really are unfamiliar with NUB cigars, huh? You must have missed the massive marketing campaign wherein one of the main selling points was how long these short smokes take to burn.

The following chart was reproduced in various forms on the web and in print catalogs for the various size NUBs. As you can see, they were never intended to be 'dog walkers'. (The shape listed at the end of the line is of similar smoking duration cigars)

3.75" x 54 parejo 38 minutes robusto

3.75" x 58 parejo 43 minutes robusto

4" x 60 parejo 58 minutes churchill

4" x 64 torpedo 69 minutes churchill

4" x 66 box-press torpedo 69 minutes presidente

4" x 66 parejo 74 minutes presidente

FNA, I guess I missed the boat with Nubs but after last night, my thoughts are a bit different. I'm surprised by the times you gave me. That cigar really only lasted 20 minutes. So am I reading that the cigar called a "Nub" is marketed in name only by Oliva with other companies making a shorter style cigar, just not called a Nub?

Unfortunately I severely doubt you'll see one. With Padillas distribution and blending moving to ST/Oliva they've decided to completely rebrand the company back in the the boutique it was when it started. They're going to try going with minimal online sales and be a mainly in shop stick. We just got the first two of their new blends in the other day at work.

Yup. Nub is an offshoot of Oliva/ST with 7 regular production blends(Connecticut, Cameroon, Habano, Maduro, Cain F, Cain Maduro, Cain Habano), as well as a few more limited blends(Nub Dub, Cain Daytona, USA, etc)

The size caught on, so other companies are trying to catch on to it. I wouldn't really read into the smoking times posted though, everyone smokes at a different rate, and for the most part those numbers seemed pretty elongated for the Nub and severely shortened for the "normal" sizes(I smoke fast and still get at least 90 mins out of a churchill)

I enjoy the Cain nubs on a regular basis. I recently had a omar ortez nub style cigar that was fantastic.

I like the 358 Cameroon quite a bit... no way I could complete one in 20 minutes! 45min sounds about right, about the same as most 5x50 Robustos.
