All Cigar Discussion>Padron to add a 60RG
Emjaysmash 08:28 PM 01-30-2012
Looks like Padron is going to be adding a new size to their Padron 1964 Anniversary Series.

6 x 60 rg "No. 4"

I saw this today on FB. I for one am excited about it, even though the "clown" cigar naysayers will say otherwise. But hey, they will sell the sh!t out of them and I bet they will be great!

I heard it a regular production of the Smoke Inn 15th anny cigar.

In the article they allude to that, but say it is a different blend and taste.

My guess is they sell like hotcakes.

Padron has the reputation of making high quality cigars that sell very well so I can't see these being any different.

It's no secret that within the US, demand for larger RG has been trending upward for sometime now. IIRC I was reading an article the other day that Diamond Crown was the first 54 RG cigar and that was only in 1995, so I can't see it being too much of a deterrent.

I for one would rather smoke something with a smaller RG but I'm Canadian :-)

It probably will; a lot of people seem to like the larger ring gauges...

While I tend to smoke smaller cigars these days I will probably give these a try. I had a couple of the Smoke Inn specials and they were pretty good.

I've never had a bad Padron and most of them are quite excellent.

Just my :-)

Superiores or Coronas. As close as it gets anyway. They seem smaller than 42rg with that press. :-)

A 60rg '64 model will sell just fine. Just like the 60rg 7000's. The '64 Imperials are 54rg and the '26 No. 9's are 56rg so a step up to a 60rg in either line isn't that much of a stretch, imo.

There are certain smokes in 60RG that are wonderful, others not so much.

The '64s are betting in medium ring guage, 40-50, and the 15th Ann. tasted much like a '64, but was not the same - and not in a good way.

Yes, would love to see a '64 lancero.

I'm not a huge 60 RG guy either, but the Smoke Inn SI-15 was my number 3 cigar of the year last year. This cigar (if it's the same) is fantastic.

here's the review I posted on Asylum awhile back if anyone is bored and wants a read. http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...ghlight=Padron

Padron might be the only 60 ring cigar I'd smoke, but that's only because it would be box-pressed and I trust Padron to deliver what I pay for.

I know a lot of guys here don't prefer 60RG cigars including myself but that size does sell very well. If it didn't Padron would not be throwing their hat in the ring. I believe this stick started out as a limited release for Smoke Inn and the Maduros sold out pretty quickly if I remember right. My guess is the frequency in which these were sold was enough to catch their attention and realize they are ignoring a big corner of the market. I know in my local shops they will sell out quickly as do most of the 60RG sized sticks. To the average consumer I think they feel they are getting more for their money when comparing the price of a 60 ringer compared to your typical Toro or Robusto.
As much as some guys like to hate on the 60RG I think they are here to stay as the market for them is very strong.

Actually, this is good news, as my girlfriend's cat Smokers has been asking about a premium with a 60 RG.
