All Cigar Discussion>My Father 343 911
jakesmokes 05:02 PM 10-10-2011
Hi,

I just picked up a box of these limited releases of My Father. Mine is like box 117 of 343. The pictures on the web site show cigars with the standard MF band. Has anyone else gotten any of these? None of the cigars in my box have bands. And.. beyond that there is no real way ( that I can tell ) to know which are which of the 20. I mean, the 9 are on top and the 11 on the bottom but they look the same to me.

I sorta wondered at first if maybe they had messed up the order..

David

They don't come banded. I believe the top nine have a habano wrapper and the bottom eleven have the same oscuro wrapper from le bijou 1922.

You could just take a sharpie and write on the cello.

Or get those blank white bands from heartfelt and write on those.

Yeah.. writing on the cello is a good idea. I actually forget if they came with cello on. I'll have to check when the get done in the freezer.

Some people don't like writing on cello, including me. It's just a preference. But if you are going to do that, make sure it's not a strong smelling marker. Cello is breathable and your cigars will breathe in that marker smell if it's bad enough.

Anyone smoke any of these? I wonder how they compare to the MF LE.

I smoked the Rosado yesterday (1 of 9) and I liked it a lot better than the LE version.

I saw a bunch of boxes of these at a B&M. They are a habano and a oscaro wrapper and they both come in one box. 11 on the oscaro and 9 of the hanabos.

I saw it posted elsewhere that these didn't have bands. I wonder why they took a promo shot with bands on the sticks and then went without them. It's a cool release, very nice box, and great cause, though I really wish a little more of the proceeds went to the families.

20% is a pretty good chunk of money IMHO.

It goes to the charities of the families. Someone told me that the families are already millionaires and their children's college is already paid off.

I have seen people write on the cap of the cigar with a pen. I have received some gifted CC's where the year was hand written on the cap. But that was also on lighter colored wrappers (Boli CJ, PSD4)

True, I guess I don't know what the actual cost of production on these is, was just wondering if there was more room in there for charity.

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew it had something to do with the families. After seeing that 10 Years Later documentary I wish there was more help out there for the first responders and clean-up crew that seem to be getting sick now from all the toxins at Ground Zero.

I spoke with Jose Ortega who is the president of My Father Cigars at an event last weekend. He said that they don't make any money on these cigars and that they just did it because it went to a good cause and he couldn't tell the guy who had the idea no.

Now, I don't believe that My Father makes no money on the deal. Just passing along what I heard.
