All Cigar Discussion>Suggestions for an everyday smoke
Whiskeytown 09:04 PM 06-24-2011
Hello everyone, I'm new here after lurking around for about a month. I introduced myself in the new members section but I'll quickly recap here. I'm from North Carolina, recently returned to cigar smoking and while not really having a staple of favorites yet I have been enjoying a vast variety. I enjoy medium-full bodied and prefer coronas and robustos as I like staying around the 1 hour mark per cigar

My question is regarding a decent, modestly priced cigar to keep in my humidor for weekly smoking, as not to blow through my high end selections, as well as handing out to guests when they are over. I haven't really settled on "my brand" yet and the guys that I usually smoke with are much the same way. Usually it's a trip to the local B&M and we each pick one or two after some short discussions with the manager. We do seem to float more on the maduro side as well. But I would like to have something on hand now that my humidor is holding great temp and RH.

Some recommendations i've received include Perdomo Lot 23, Cain, and Montesino. Any help or ideas you have are greatly appreciated.

Some of the regular line of Tats are good sticks to keep on hand. The re-released Series P is only about $ 60.00 a box for the robusto.

Some fairly inexpensive smokes that are mighty tasty:
The Brick (they really are tasty)
Omar Ortez

Yes, the Tat Havana VI are pretty good,
and the Olivas are good bang for the buck.

Fuente's Chateau line, 858s, and Short Story
are all good and fairly priced. But I like most
all Fuentes. Don't forget to try their Cuesta-Rey
line.

Punch is also very good for the money. My fav
is the Rare Corojo with 6 mos.+ age on them.

Diesel Unholy cocktails (~$3 a piece)
Fuente Short Stories
Cain Daytonas

What is modestly priced though? I mean if you go on Cigarsatyourprice.com you can score all sorts of Illusiones for $5-$6, which IMO isn't bad at all. They are quite tasty too. Cruzados by Illusione are great as well.

I'd also say keep watching cigarmonster. They always have deals on shipped 5'ers.

JdN Fuertes from Cigars International or JR's. Great smokes for about two bucks a pop in the corona gorda, which is my favorite size.

Haven't seem them mentioned yet but gran habano vintage 2002 are a solid smoke and a bundle can be picked up for pretty cheap on CI or the devil site.

I'll also back up Mac and some others and say that for budget/moderate price smokes it try and keep some of these on hand

Perdomo lot 23 and 10th anniversary
Famous 3000 or 5000
Padron 3000
Diesel unholy cocktail
5 Vegas gold maduro
Final blend robusto
CAO brailiza GOL!

All are pretty solid smokes and easy to find on cigarbid or monster.

Perdomo2 maduro and natural are very affordable and are a great daily smoker. Another couple of good ones are Perdomo Mistakes and El Cobre; these two are bundle smokes that are excellent. GR Specials are my final suggestion as the previous folks had great suggestions.

You can't go wrong with Perdomos and that was an excellent suggestion about the Padron 3000.

Another route is factory seconds. Alec Bradley, Perdomo and RP have 2nds that are very good and are great for when you're doing things around the house or when you're not wanting to burn a premium "banded" stick. The flavor is still the same but you just don't pay as much as the banded version due to a blemish somewhere on the sticks.

Also, I keep them on hand when I have friends over and they want to just "try" a cigar - one puff, one cough and they're done. Ever have THAT happen to you? Ergo, the 2nds.

I'm fairly new to smoking too. I have tried a lot of different maduros in the past four months and I have turned to 601 Blues as my primary smoke. Love these things!! You can often get some good deals on the internet.

Others I enjoy:

Don Pepin Garcia Blue, JJ Maduro
Tatuaje
Padron 3000
5 Vegas AAA Maduro
Diesel Unholy Cocktail
Arturo Fuente (mostly anything)

Enjoy!! :-)

Rather than suggest an everyday smoke, I would recommend that you smoke something different every day. Your palate is evolving and buying a quantity of something that you may like today may not be what you want in six months or a year. Explore flavor profiles, manufacturers and blends. Dont limit yourself, a go to cigar can become boring. :-)

I think one to add to the value list is Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro.

^This. I currently only keep multiples of my favorite cigar and a couple I'm aging right now. Everything else is singles I've gotten other places, and mostly new stuff to me, just a few cigars I have in my humi I've smoked before. Trying a whole bunch of new things is fun.
