I have been doing blind review sets for several years over a few different boards. I am currently setting up to do another and wanted to add a member from this board since reviews are as popular and talked about here as anywhere.
I have a review format that has been popular and will be used by all panel members. I have four panelist so far. hscmit from here is already in. I will be sending four or five blind cigars out, and you smoke them, write up your opinions, email or pm your review to me, and then I will put all five panelist reviews up together. I like to give readers a day or two to guess and discuss what they think the cigar is, and then I will do the reveal. It has been a hit every time, and everyone learns a lot from the experience.
If you are interested in being the final reviewer, post on this thread why you should be my candidate. Links to reviews you have done previously will help. Some people may not like having to go this route, but it gets expensive gathering cigars and sending them all over the country. I only ask for honest well thought out reviews in return. I have had in the past too many that simply were going for free cigars, and held the group up by not getting reviews done. So if your interested or have any questions, let me know.
Thanks.
:-)

I'd like to give this a go. If you look at my other reviews I try to be objective, and put out the facts as I see them.
That said, I think what I can also bring to this is being a n00b. While I know how to light a stick; I surely don't have the experience that a lot of others have...So that may bring an interesting perspective (dichotomy of experienced reviews vs. newbie. Approachability, etc)

Dang! Only up a little while and two very good choices! I went seeing who posted on my review threads as a tiebreaker, and you both had! I really like both of your review styles, and other than scoring em and draw, burn, and ash/smoke sections, you are doing my format already.
One of you are in. Give me a day to see who's style will fit the group and I will let you know. I am going to be over here more in the future, so whoever isn't in I will hold a spot for on my next one.

After deliberating, I am going to go with Emjaysmash for this run. I actually have two guys pretty new to blind reviews, so thought a person with a few under his belt will go better this time around. I would do six, but a couple of the cigars I have in mind I only have five on hand. Steve, send me your snailer as well, if I have extras of a couple I can send them and you can play along with those. And I will have your addy for the next one; probably plan it around late August/early September.
Thanks everyone, and I hope you follow the reviews.

All of you would be great choices. I will probably make my next one a asylum exclusive so 5 spots will be open. I just enjoy doing these and seeing peoples takes on cigars I enjoy. The last few I have been involved in left a bad taste in my mouth, so I wanted to get people that know price and rarity alone do not a great cigar make.

Not to be rude, I just don't understand what you mean. If it was a Blind taste test, how would they know price and rarity? Did they give it a bad review? Or did they knock it AFTER they were told what it was?

A nice way of saying I'm old????
But Corey is a good choice because he's doing a lot more experimenting with new things than I am. He's also smokes more often than I do, and that might be a good thing if your reviewers need to smoke more than just a couple cigars.
Peace of the Lord be with you.

I can't wait to see these reviews come out. I love the blind reviews, it is realy interesting to see what people have to say about a stick when they don't know what it is.
I would love to get into the cigar reviewing habit but I don't smoke regularly enough nor do I have the patience or forethought to write notes or take pictures.
:-)
Looking forward to the reviews.

Wayner, it was guys that chase rare sticks and if it's expensive, it's great. When they did the blind reviews they ripped Opus X and Anejos, and blamed that they got a bad one once they found out what they were. Essentially, they walked away gaining nothing from the experience, and never gave any of the cigars a chance. They were so afraid they would say they loved a cheap cigar and someone might make fun of them for it, they ripped them all. So without the band, all cigars are worse in their eyes.
Reviewing is a discipline. That is why I don't mind sending with nothing in return. I know the time and prep it takes to set up to do a well thought out and unbiased review. I enjoy it, as many of you here do. One main reason I am coming here from the boards I used to frequent. No issues with anyone, just no one talks cigars anymore where I used to go.

Sitting down and going through with a review really changes what you see in a cigar. Focusing your energy on the task at hand really makes you see things you otherwise miss. If I have a cigar while watching tv, or working around the shop, I don't get near what I find from spending the time on the cigar. Try it once; you will see what I mean. And take Emjaysmash's advice, and try the PIF.
