General Discussion>Cutom roll bands (just for fun poll!)
muhren 09:43 AM 02-05-2011
I'm having some custom rolls made and I wanted to slap a band on 'em!

These are roughs.

Not actual colors, they're yet to be determined.

Any stick-out as a winner in this set?

FWIW, in case anyone was curious, Artista Puro translates to "Cigar Artist" I thought it was a cool name for a cigar as well!:-)

I like #1 a lot--I'd think about buying something with that band on it! :-)

Just a Spanish note, "puro" is a noun which means "cigar", whereas "cigar" in "cigar artist" is an adjective. "Artista puro" is noun-noun, which is grammatically awkward, and is more comfortably and naturally read as "pure artist"--"puro" (adj.) meaning pure. It's not as smooth-looking as "artista puro," but to get "cigar artist" using "puro" it would need to be "artista de puros."

Thanks for the heads up! :-) If I ever go public I'll keep that in mind. For now, I'm going for something that "looks cool" :-)

Voted on your FB page too but I still like #1 the best. It combines all the elements of the rest together very nicely.

Makes sense as it was the last one I did. Each seemed to have elements of the previous! Funny how that works.

I like #2....especially for personal custom rolls, which I assume will be smoked or given out.... No need for busy and eye catching, clean and classy is the focus.

Maybe #1 if you took out the brushes?

I hear that "cleaner" concept. Nice thought.

Just curious, are you the official Habanos artist?
Are you Cuban?
Do you only paint Cuban cigars?

All three questions relate to the fact three out of four bands represent Cuba via the country's image.

Mike, I'm just curious, are these a blend you created? Or are you just buying or ordering preexisting custom rolls from one one the shops? Or is it a blend you spec'd and they created? And, are these Cuban cigars, or are you just using the outline of the island artistically as some other manufacturers do?

BTW, at least to me on these B&W proofs, the brushes in the "X" configurations look a lot more like spears than they do paint brushes.

Yea, the spears confused me for a minute until I read a couple replies and someone mentioned brushes.

I voted for #1 with #3 close behind. Would love to see them with some color.

Ofiicial = No
Cuban = No
Paint only Cubans = No

I guess it would have been easier to say "no to all three"

Cuba's outline is very iconic to the cigar industry and since distribution of this cigar will be my front porch, back porch and MAYBE garage, I figured I'd be ok. :-)

Blend = preexisting/not my own.
Leaf origin = I'm not sure! I just thought it looked cool

These are just cigars for me to smoke on the back porch. The band concept/poll is just for grins and giggles. I'm going to make them and put them on the bundle of 25 I've ordered. These aren't for public consumption. They're just for me and my buddies because I thought having a custom roll was pretty darn cool!

The Cuban representation is used by many non Cuban cigar companies to illustrate a link of some type to Cuba. Usually via Cuban seeds for the tobacco. Others do it as it is their heritage being exiles of Cuba.
In your case, none of it fits. Sort of a square peg in a round hole.
Do as you wish but seems pretty silly to me to use that.
A tobacco leaf would be more appropriate but heck do I know.
I am all for BOTLs having businesses and making a living but it now seems CA is not a community but rather a community to be used for continued profit.
My two cents.

Did you read what I wrote? There's no money being made/no business here. I thought bros here would get a kick out of it...for fun.

Since there is no relation to Cuba by you, or your cigar (is it even a Puro?) and it is just for "grins and giggles" why not put your face on the label?
