General Discussion>Life as a nursing student
forgop 05:00 PM 01-13-2011
I just started and I can tell already that it's gonna be really intense. Exams begin at the end of next week already and we have demonstrations on Tuesday/Thursday that we repeat back that we've learned the task at hand. We will be doing our first hands-on clinical experiences in just 4 weeks.

There's a total of 23 students in my class-18 girls and 5 guys. If I only knew of this ratio (and this is a low girl/guy ratio) in my previous undergrad days...

And to think I have 2 more books and a 6 DVD set on the way yet... :-)

Hey bro my wife is a nurse. She is in grad school now and doesn't need her old books. Maybe she has some you can use and save some money! PM me the ISBN numbers.

Thanks, but I already have everything on order now. I shopped around and got a lot of new stuff for the price of used books at a lot of places.

My wife is getting her RN at the local college - 4yr degree program, going part time. Been taking classes for ~5yrs now and says going to be 2 more. All she has left to take is something like 4 semesters of clinicals.

Yeah, we're getting a house full of books too - she buys something like 3-4 for every class.

They did the two year program only cost about 15k each and me working 2 jobs. My current wife did work weekends so it didn't hurt too bad.

Suck it up!
I put myself through nursing school working two jobs and accruing 2000 hours towards my sports medicine internship. That was 30 years ago........all papers had to be typed and spaced properly manually.
Hang in there, it's not as bad as it seems.
Now trying to find a job competing against experienced foreign nurses may be the real challange!

I'm doing the accelerated option for a bachelors degree, so working isn't really an option while I'm in this program. Nursing courses taken over a traditional 3 year program are condensed into 16 months.
