I bought this cigar over a year and a half ago as a celebratory cigar for my best friend and I to smoke when we graduated college. We moved up the smoking date a bit as he is now joining the Marine Corps, so we decided to smoke this bad boy as it may be the last time we have a cigar together for a while.
Fuente Fuente Opus X xXx ("Power Ranger")
Image
Size:4.625 x 49
Wrapper: Dominican Rosado
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Pre-light draw: good, free with resistance
Appearance: medium brown slightly mottle wrapper with small veins.
Flavors:
Image
First third:
Smooth pepper, cedar. Medium body, slight pepper finish on the palate. Reminiscent of a Ramon Allones Special Selection. Pepper smooths out to creaminess and leather. Hints of chocolate weave in and out. Full bodied nicotine-wise.
Image
Second Third: very much the same as the first third.
Image
Final Third:
Leather predominates with sweet chocolate and cocoa under tones. The pepper has completely dissipated leaving a smooth creamy finish on the palate.
Image
Ash: solid, only slightly flaky but ashed when I wanted it to.
Burn: my only contention was the burn was very wavy and needed to be touched up often.
Overall: I would say this has been the best Opus that I had had to date. Very much worth the $12-15 price tag I paid for it over a year and a half ago. I'm very interested in how these fair after 3 of 5 years.

One of my favorites as well, although there is not a dealer in my new state of residence. So they are a little hard to find.

I say let it rest. We had intended to let them rest another year an a half, but life happens.

Just had one with 2 years rest on it. Was very good. Smooth and peppery, lots of smoke and cedar. Was definitely full bodied and got a nice nicotine kick from it. I will definitely leave these alone for some more time
:-)

Nice review, I love this cigar.
That creamy finish that comes in the second 1/3 I have yet to find in any other cigar.

Love these smokes. If you can wait that long, I think these hit there peak smoking point at about 5 years.

Thanks for the review, MJ. Now we only need to get a camera for you so you don't have to use the phone pictures.
Have had a couple of these. While the flavors are nice, the whole burn issue is a real problem. In my own personal opinion and experience, the burn issues becomes so much of a hassle that it makes the smoking of these so off-putting that it is not worth the effort.
I have another one of these waiting in the wings. I am hoping some age with even out the burn a bit.
But, that's just my own $0.02.
Peace of the Lord be with you.
