Sports>Ken Griffey Jr. Retires

One of the greatest players in the game back in his heyday and perhaps one of the greatest hitters of all time and will be a first ballot hall of famer. A perennial All-Star, sweetest swing in the game and a presence in the club house. Wish he would have stayed healthy, as he could have likely owned the homerun record, for atleast a few years. Glad to have met him atleast once. Best of luck to him and his family in the future.

Second to Big Frank, Jr. was one of my favorite players growing up.

Agreed. One of the last bastions of my childhood baseball fan career. He will be sorely missed from the Seattle dugout... again.
Best swing in baseball - no doubt. The "if onlys" center around his health - as you mention.
Kudos for an entertaining career and wish him the best.

He was one hell of a player. I just wish he wasn't hurt the whole time in Cincy.

He never really fit in Cincinnati, couldn't really stay healthy and not a spot on an NL team for an aging outfielder, always should have been a Mariner.

Wonder if his rookie card will go up in price?

So, he quit in the middle of the season?

The MAN!!! We'll be seeing him in Cooperstown in a few years. I just wish he performed in Cincy like he did the first time around in Seattle.
Yes he quit in the middle of the season. Too many issues to keep on this year. The sleeping in the locker room during a game rumor didn't help either.

:-) It must be pretty embarrassing to fall asleep during a game

He was defaintely one of the greatest to ever play the game. I am glad to see him retire though. He is not a competitive player at this stage in his career. Now we have to wait the 5 years for his HOF speech.

I'm not sure it was true. Even if it was, the snitches who ratted him out deserve to be beaten. You don't betray your own teamate, no matter if you like him or not.

Ken is gonna stay in baseball, just not as a player.
I SO enjoyed all the "Is Bonds or Griffey better" years. It fleshed out totally in Ken's favor, right?

He was super to meet in person.
Great ambassador for the game and sad he was injured so often.

His swing is fantastic! I tried to emulate it as a kid but never could be as smooth as him. Too bad his retirement got looked over because of the blown call in the almost perfect game for the Tigers
