All Cigar Discussion>Smoke what you're craving, or try a new stick?
Razorhog 03:03 PM 03-09-2010
Seems like I go through this a lot. I want to try different sticks, but I'm craving a particular cigar badly. What do you do?

Is it still called double fisting?

I usually succumb to the craving, hence the overstuffed singles drawers. :-)

Go with what you want.

Well today I decided to succumb to the craving. Perhaps after dinner I'll have a cigar I've never smoked before.

If your craving it then smoke it brother! But you have me wonder, what was you craving, and what was new to you?

I smoke what I am craving although I have a mini debate a few minutes prior.

Double-fisting? In a way, maybe. On the one hand, you know what you like and know where you can get it. On the other, you may be missing something you'd like just as well, if not more. Variety may or may not spice your life, yet it does let you know what options are available. That's why retailers offer 5-packs and samplers, and why nutz like us invented box-passes.

Bottom line, there's no either/or answer, IMHO.

I go with what I'm craving too. I hope you enjoy the one you haven't tried. :-)

I have a humidor specifically for that purpose.

1 drawer split between Lanceros and everything else.

1 drawer totally Oliva.

1 drawer totally Camacho.

The other three Humidors?? :-)

If I am craving a specific stick...that's what I grab! :-)

I agree with the double fisting statement, although it sounds kinda dirty. Smoke em all!! Life's too short.

I seriously have this problem. I have about 300 singles and many great cigars I have never tried. I know what I like though and I tend to stick with what I like. All this time in the humidor on those other sticks should be wonderful when I get around to them.

Well I decided to try a DPG Vegas Cubanas Toro. I am enjoying it. However, does not live up to other Pepin sticks I've had. The construction, draw, and burn are all great. The flavors seem to be pretty locked in at cedar/woody with a touch of spice and occasional leather. It's also "dry" - seems to make me drink lots of water. Not bad by any means but it's not making me start checking box prices like the Tatuaje Red did the other day.
It kind of reminds me of the CI Legends Pepin, but the flavor on the CI stick is better IMHO. All in all, an enjoyable smoke - each cigar is a learning experience :-)

That's not a bad problem to have at all :-)

I've got a plan now. I've got so many bomb and PIF singles that should keep me busy for at least a year to give my regulars some rest:-)

I have a hard time answering that... cause so many times I am craving a certain stick and then I will go and stand in front of the humi staring. Most times I talk myself of what I went there for and try something different.

If it's a specific, intese craving than that wins, but I always try to smoke something new :-)

I rarely smoke what was originally in my head.....What I see in the humi usually changes my mind....Not a bad "problem" I guess :-)
