Well I cant say its a surprise.
We are down to 3 guys left in our branch and this morning we got called into the office for the "pep talk".
Basically came down to one of us voluntarily taking the layoff or he would pick. I have been waiting for this for almost a year now so we have been planing for it. Spent all of last year paying down some of the credit, adding a few bucks to the retirement account and scaling back our luxury items. The other 2 guys would never make it, 1 is already about to lose his house and the other is struggling with 3 kids at home and a child with an ex to support. My wife has a good job and I can make up some of the lost wages working in the shop.
I just looked up the process online for filing for unemployment, man how in the world are people making it with the maximum limits set so low
:-) ?
Oh well, there's a first for everything, I have never been without a job for more than a week, except vacation time in almost 30 years.

Sorry to hear that and I am proud that a fellow member of this site is such a responsible and honorable person to think of and prepare to help others before themselves. We need more people like you in the world.

Its been just a little over a year since I got the same talk. I too saw it coming and prepared for it. As you know my wife has a good job as well so the blow wasn't bad at all.
I incorporated, set up my jewelry repair business at home and 1 year later I still have my head above water and I am looking to expand.
Your a good man Charlie Brown, its time to move on to the next step in your life!
Thoughts and Prayers...
Scott

Good luck, my friend. Cream always rises to the top, and I have no doubt that will be the case with you no matter what you ultimately decide to pursue. I'll be rooting for you.

Hate to sound like a broken record here Chuck but you're a good man. Few would do something selfless like that, especially right now.

Wow. I feel bad, yet proud for you.
It's great to know that you were able to help out your friends in such a way. They will never know the true value of what you've done.
That good Karma will be returned someday. I wish I could set myself up similar, as that is a truly honorable action.

Awe Shucks, its not all that guys.
Hey for all I know it would have been me anyways.
I have other plans indeed and maybe I just needed a push.
Just glad we had the foresight to plan ahead. Like I said, looking at the max you can collect, how in the world are family's surviving?
Maybe we are just spoiled but I don't think so.
I put myself as a fairly middle, middle class family.
With what the unemployment compensation is, I would lose everything without planing ahead.
Say a few prayers for those who get blind sided or are not prepared.
We are going to be fine
:-)
