General Discussion>Rock/Metal Singers With Great Voices
Montano 06:24 AM 01-08-2010
I was flipping through the channels last night and stumbled upon Iron Maiden in concert. Not only did it bring back many many memories of my youth, but it reminded me of what an amazing voice Bruce has. So I got to thinking about frontmen who could bring it. I couldn't think of too many, but I would certainly include Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio.

There are tons of singers who are average. Ozzy was my man when I was growing up, but he was an entertainer, not much of a singer. Who are some others who could really bring the vocals ?

Corey Glover from Living Colour (check out their new album, the chair in the doorway).

First that comes to mind is Roger Daltrey (The Who).
Just watch the opening of any CSI episode. Teenage Wasteland in particular.

One of the best concerts I ever saw was Maiden's Brave New World tour. Queensryche opened, then Halford, then the Irons. Three of the best voices in metal right there.

Funny this was the first thread I clicked on after hitting shuffle on the iPod. Iron Maiden came on and Bruce D was the first name that came to mind.

Layne Staley from AiC. Very distinctive voice, and excellent harmonies with Jerry Cantrell.

No mention of Phil Anselmo. One of the gnarliest vocalists of all time. Super heavy grinding vocals with the ability to go high.

Glenn Danzig - Mistifts/Samhain/Danzig
Zakk Wylde - Black Label Society
William DuVall - AIC
Thom Yorke - Radiohead
David Coverdale - Deep Purple/Whitesnake
Paul Stanley - Kiss
Sebastian Bach - Skid Row
Geoff Tate - Queensryche
Doug Pinnick - King's X
Robin Zander - Cheap Trick
Klaus Meine - Scorpions
Don Dokken - Dokken
Scott Weiland - STP/Velvet Revolver
Pepper Keenan - COC
Jimi Hendrix

And yes, Anselmo is very underrated because people only think of the throaty, grinding style but he can really sing in the "traditional" sense as well.
