Ok I have heard the craze about the torch lighters and went and bought one. I have been using it for about a month now. I must say I am not a fan. No matter how hard I try I end up burning the cigars about 50% of the time..creating terrible starts to my smokes.
Does anyone know of any good alternatives? I feel like I am not enjoying my cigars to the fullest because of this issue I have!
Thanks in advance!
James

it takes a little practice, using the torch. slowly move the flame towards the foot until you see the tobacco start to char and burn.
sorry, but i don't have any soft-flame recommendation other than high-end dunhill or dupont. i really like my zippo with the blazer insert, though.

Seriously James?
Are you trying to light the cigar while it's in your mouth? If so, I can understand you burning it. Also, is the lighter you're using triple or double torch? If so, you may want to stick with single. Hold the stick in your hand and turn it as you light the cigar, blow on the foot until it's all red.
I still burn cigars trying to light them when they're in my mouth, so I seldom do it.
:-)

No its not in my mouth (thats what she said)! It doesn't happen every time either...just some of the time (even though I do it the same way every time). I never had any problem before I used a torch lighter (and it is a single torch). Maybe I am just lighter retarded!

Maybe check out the Lotus 2500. It is both a torch and soft flame. I absolutely love this thing. Every time I pull it out at a herf it becomes the herf community lighter because everyone loves it.

I go back & forth between my torches (Blazer & Walmart Ronson) and my Bic. I don't have any problem with either.
Just use different techniques, depending on which one I use.
If you're having problems with a torch, just reach for a Bic. No worries.

I've been wondering the same thing, everyone seems to have a favorite cheap torch, which for me is far and away the ronson jetlite, of which I have a zillion of them and love them. I am looking for a cheap refillable, hammer reliable, soft flame lighter. Not to threadjack, but I'm interested in this too....

^^^ Hahah, I just noticed you want the "best" and I am looking for the "cheapest best". Oh well, maybe someone will chime in with a good cheapie, and by cheapie, I mean less than $10.00, not slightly less than a box of smokes.

I don’t know how good they are, but
Vector makes a soft flame lighter.

Well ... I'm an old fart, But I use plain old matches for everything...
Cigars, cigaretts, pipe, candles, gas stoves ....Fuses ...
You name it, they've been around for hundreds of years and eliminate the need to throw away expensive junk lighters

I prefer using soft flame lighters....I would vote for one as best and one as more practical and very nice....Best...S.T. Dupont Ligne 2.....Affordable...Atoll...

Just stick with matches in my opinion, I love them, although I just got a ronsen and love it, but still like matches more

Ditto! That's what I use. It's a soft flame that works just as effectively!!
