My nephew has been deployed to Iraq and his biggest wish is to have some DVD's sent to him. I'd like to copy some from my collection but have never done it. Can anyone direct me to a program that will copy DVD's regardless of how they are protected?
Thanks,
MCS

Most computers have DVD burners with software in them now. You maybe able to do on your laptop or desktop.
Remember though, it's illegal.

It is completely within your rights as a consumer to make ONE backup copy of your store bought DVD's or Cd's as per the DMCA.
Maybe MCS is going to make ONE backup copy of his DVD's. And maybe MCS is going to store the ONE backup copies of the DVD's at his nephew's since he is out of room.
:-)
Tell us a little more about your system. Mac or PC?

I'm on a PC. I realize it's not the most legal thing to do and have never been one to do this and never copy anything I don't already own. That's why I don't know how to do it!

As far as my interpretation of the law goes copying a DVD is not illegal and falls under "fair use". But I am not a judge.
What you do with it afterward, well...

While I don't condone such actions
:-) :-) (I know I know)
You might check out a program called DVDshrink
:-)
and for those pesky ones, DVD Decryptor, then use DVD shrink.

I used a program called 1click DVD copy in the past. It always worked great for me.

Is he going to watch them off a computer or off a dvd player? Because if he watches them off a computer you can save some time.

I have a cousin who has a friend who has a brother who knows a guy who likes to use DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor. I forget what the stranger said he used to burn though.

I use AnyDVD to rip. DVD Rebuilder Pro and HCenc to encode to DVD-5.

DVDShrink. Real easy, put in a DVD, copies it to your HD and then place in a blank DVD and it burns it. Extras and all.

I like DVDFab Platinum. It's a one stop program that works every time.
I like that I can copy a DVD in a format that I can watch from my phone. It can optimize for the Zune, iPhone, PSP, etc.
It's not free. I'd be very weary about downloading through a P2P site. High risk of trojans.
