that you ever did to someone you cared about?
With valentines day coming around I was thinking about Jane and my many years together. Never really thought about some of the things I did, however briefly that might have caused her trama.
Sunny day 28 years ago. We have a nice picnic and walk out on the end of the pier in our community. Sitting on the rocks...
I say... "Honey"
She says "yes"
Me.. "I dont know how to say this, so I'll just say it"
She says "just go ahead"
I say "I don't to date you any more"
The cruel part was the 15 second pause before I asked her to marry me.

I experienced the other side of the story…
My wife was so surprised and happy when I proposed to her that she forgot to answer.
:-) I said something like… “I take it that’s a yes?”
:-)

I read somewhere that a broad range of emotions experienced is very short time frames is good for a womans health. And given the till death do us part thing, we were just thinking long term...

Ha! I'm glad I didn't read this thread and try it when I proposed recently, or else my fiancee would probably have killed me in the span of those 15 seconds.

Something along the likes of Dave's story:
I met my wife when I transferred to another store (Oct `98). I was the manager and he was the subordinate (oh man... this is going to start it up
:-)). In any case; another associate told me that she liked me. One day she comes in all dolled-up. I was about to go home and she was going to start her lunch. I invite her to grab a bite since I skipped lunch and my drive is 60 minutes. So about 10 minutes in I ask her:
"So I heard that you like me. Is this true?"
"(Smiling & embarrassed) Yes."
"Well... you know as your manager; we can't be together."
At that point; all of the energy/happiness/smiling was crushed out of her. I had to verify this wasn't an employee prank. Her reaction told me it wasn't. So I said:
"Don't worry about it; what is between us is all that matters."
She came back to life and we have been together since. I transferred out of the store for obvious reasons; and then let it be known.
WORST DECISION EVER. J/K. I can't believe it has been over 10 years. Man time flies!
