All Cigar Discussion>3 second rule - what would you do?
Bunker 07:55 AM 12-02-2010
So I am setting up on the porch with the laptop for my weekly, work from home smoke - (a beautiful Los Blancos Maduro Churchill that I got from a pass on another site), when I mindless set the unlit smoke down to let the dog out, and it proceeds to roll off the counter right into the dog's water bowl cut end in. :-)

A quickly grabbed it, gave it a quick rinse and toweled it off.

What's a little dog spit (I had just refilled the bowl)?

It's not like he peed on it right?

What would you do? :-)

I've heard somewhere that a dog's mouth is cleaner than our mouths...or butts. It's one or the other.

Don't quote me on that.

Meh, might have burn issues?

I've heard that many times...but we brush our teeth and don't go licking ourselves. :-)

I'd toss the stick..:-)

When I first started smoking cigars, I had a Nub Connecticut roll off the table outside into the dog dish. I now realize that it was probably the best thing as they are not good.

You even have to ask?

Smoke it.

Yuck. I don't think I'd try to resucitate that stogie unless it was a really, really valuable and irreplacable cigar:-)

It was still fresh water, right??

My own dogs, never would I even think of it.

I have a beagle and a bloodhound. The beagle hates the bloodhound. After he drinks or eats he hikes his leg on what's left in the bowel. The bloodhound will still finish off what's left. :-)

Also, depends on how often you change the water. You could always excise the end if it got soggy with a cutter.

I am already into the second third of it and it is quite tasty, just curious :-)

What dog lover doesn't get his face slobbed by his/her dog every once in a while?

I'd smoke it unless it had burn or draw issues, but I'd have no problem with it hitting the dog's water bowl.

I'm a pretty big germ freak, but man...if it's a nice smoke and it didn't soak in the bowl...I'd probably get a damp paper towel and wipe it off. Maybe clip a little more off the end.

More importantly though, I'd get a cigar holder or more ashtrays so you have one readily available :-) lol

I would toss it. It was a Los Blancos, not a Dunhill Cabinetta. :-)

I would have smoked it too. It's not like it fell in a kitty litter box. My dogs will lick my face to greet me when I come home sometimes so maybe my mindset is different.

I know I once dropped a cigar into a drink, and it sucked up the liquid so quick that I couldn't have relit it no matter what. If you are able to relight it, I'd certainly do so.

Being in the dog's bowl wouldn't especially bother me.

Being wet would.

One of my dogs had half his lower jaw removed due to bone cancer; he has a hard time drinking (lapping up) water from the bowl -- the water just leaks out of the side of his mouth... Consequently, even a fresh bowl of water is quickly tainted after he drinks -- his saliva forms a scum on the top. Doesn't stop the other dog from drinking, but I would think twice about smoking a cigar that had dropped in the scummy water.

If it was a really good stick, or I was desperate I would probably wipe it off and give it a try...
