Accessory Discussion / Reviews>My humidor smells like *&#@
fencefixer 08:25 AM 02-12-2012
I have a small humidor (40 count) that I put a few of those "ACID" cigars in for a month. Needless to say it reeks worse than a prostitute.. the stench is absolutely unbearable.

Any ideas on how to clean this mess up? Is my only option to leave it open and air it out or did the 140 botanicals, herbs and essential oils pretty much destroy my humidor? :-)

Shot! You could try sanding it down, but I'm afraid the smell has penatrated the wood. Bummer, hope someone else can tell you different.

Haha that figures, those smokes should really come with a warning label.. or at least some 80 grit sandpaper to recover from damage they cause. :-)

Yeah, unfortunately you have to store ACIDs and other flavoreds in a separate humidor otherwise they will impart their infusion on everything around it.

Looks like you now have a humidor for flavored cigars. LOL Sorry I am not much help.

I've seen some solid wood ACID boxes that will still have the smell years after being emptied.

You can try airing it out, or putting a box of baking soda or a carbon pack in it and closing it up, see if that helps. If you sand it, don't sand too deeply, most inexpensive smaller humidors are just a very thin sc veneer over MDF.

I would try the baking soda...if that doesn't work you can always use it for collecting bands, storing cutters, lighters.

I'm with Adam. A box of baking soda poured in a try might do the trick. :-)
The humi is veneer. Very, very, thin veneer. Take a piece of sanpaper to it and it's history.
If the baking soda doesn't do it, I'd ramp it up to a 10% bleach solution and spray it down or soak the whole inside in it for a few hours. You could do the base then prop the humi to do the lid.
If that doesn't do it, bury it in the back yard. :-)

You now have a humidor for acid cigars. Just get a new humidor for your regular smokes and you can smoke both.

i agree with dwoodward, this makes the most scene to me. Dont even try fixing your smelly one. Just use that one for your "tastey" cigars and you can get another humidor right now with a CI purchase more than $90.01

My wife likes those infused cigars. We got two of those small 20 counts when CI has a $15 deal and now she has 2 small humidors just for infused cigars.
