Recipes>Triple Decker Tower Breakfast - My First Recipe
s15driftking 09:22 AM 12-27-2009
Well, I took an old idea and Americanized it (made it big, fattening, and hearty). I hope you all try/enjoy it. It's cheap, easy, and fast.

It's also about 450-460 calories once calculated. Which really ins't too terrible considering its filling and almost a meal in itself.

You'll need:
3 Pieces of whole grain Toast
2 pieces of American Cheese
1 Jumbo egg
Butter
Salt
Pepper

Here are the instructions, but basically, you are making a triple decker grilled cheese with an egg in the middle.

It's a warm gooey mess, and its delicious!

Thanks, Bob

Interesting take on a "bulls eye." One question though . . . where's the bacon?!?!

I believe it's originally called an egg in a basket.

Bacon was an idea, but that would almost double the calories.

Been known as a "toad in a hole" as well.

I have always called that a "pig in a blanket."

pig in a blanket is a hotdog rolled in a criossant roll

This sounds like a great recipe, but...

American cheese? You gotta be kidding me. Processed cheese stuff???

Love the recipe, but I'll be trying it with some other kind of cheese...
colby, baby swiss, provolone, mild brick, 10yr old white cheddar, lorraine swiss, mozarrella, etc...

the processed american has a lower melting point... it works best for me.

That's a "bird in a nest" or a "one eye".

Delicious none the less.

I know all about the lower melting point... But a good colby and/or cheddar has a melting point that isn't far off. It is all about the taste...

OK, I admit it - I'm a cheese snob. Call it a curse. Call it whatever you like.

I do like a runny yoke. I will have to try this with another cheese and see if I can do the same with it.

I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much about how "YOU" make it, if it were cigars, I'd tell you to smoke what you like and the blazes with what anybody else thinks. I guess I should take my own advice and stick my nose outta your business about what cheese you use.

Please accept my apologies.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

Don't worry, when I saw the American Cheese on there I had the same thought. It's the Wisconsin in ya. :-)

I always heard it called "Rocky Mountain Toast"... I'm sure there are a ton of names for this.
I do like the recipe though- I'll have to try it sometime!! Thanks!!

As bass ackwards as it is, my wife has always called in "egg with hole in the middle", so now the whole family calls it that. She doesn't even know why she calls it that, I'm guessing it was a "cute" screw-up when she was little, and it stuck.
