So I went to my local-ISH cigar shop and bought a few today, mind you I'm such a newb I just looked at all the ones with 90+ on cigar aficionado.
So I ended up with 5 cigars for the next few days which are
1 - Don Pepin Garcia Cuban classic
1 - Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve
1 - Oliva Series G
1 - La Unica 500
1 - La Unica 300
Total Cost - $27
How did I do? If all goes well I'll be ordering my humidor soon and can regularly start trying all the cigars available to me to see what ones I like the most.

Not do bad at all Bill. Although I have never heard of La Unica.
Nothing wrong with selecting your cigars based on the ratings you see. I use to do the same when I first started. Reading reviews helps a whole lot as well. Keep trying new things, pretty much all I can tell ya.

5 cigars from a B&M for $27? You did very well. I have heard of La Unica but I haven't smoked one. The DPG, RP, and Oliva are all very tasty smokes.

Yeah the La Unica's were 40% off...otherwise maybe $35? Still seems good. There are 3 smoke shops in the city I work in. 1 Is a dead rip off....got some nasty smoke they said was good for $6 a pop....no good. They just didn't speak english well and ....I wanted a smoke they were open...oh well. Yeah I just looked at the top "cigar aficionado" cigars for around 5-6 a piece and got all 90+'s so I figure they have to be DECENT at worst. The liquor store next door knows me by name (all their employees), booze is my first love, apparently I am a little TOO regular? If that is possible. Of course I just did this to get an idea of what my favorite brand might become in the cigar world, every knows my favorite breweries.

Hmmm reviews you say? Thing that sucks the most is Tennessee Distribution for everything is terrible...I cannot get MANY top beers because they don't know what the hell to sell, I was even told the guy that does the beer distribution DOESN'T DRINK BEER...so no surprise in the cigar world we're stuck with ....not too much I'd imagine some of you guys collections are more diverse.

I think you did pretty darn well there, but I too have not heard of the La Unica. The DPG is one of my favorite sticks, but maybe not one to smoke early in the day!!

For those of you who don't know....
LaUnica is a Value line made by Fuente. Sort of similar
to how Primo Del Rey is Montecristo Filler w/ a Nicaraguan Wrapper....
Primo Filler & a cheaper wrapper!
Good Job Bill! Enjoy your smokes brotha!

I'll give a thumbs up on that DPG Cuban Classic. I love those

Don't think I have had a RP yet that I didn't like either! Check out the RP Sungrown Petit Corona one of these days, another of my favs!

Good start!
Personally I wasn't in love with the RP OWR. Rocky has been pumping out so many different lines in the past couple of years it was hard to keep up with him. However, I have found the 92 Vintage to be one of his better and consistent lines.

La Unica are a bundle smoke made at the Fuente factory. Very mild but not bland. I went through a few bundles of these in my early days.
