Fats Domino, the legendary New Orleans singer and piano player who took the '50s and '60s by storm ... is dead.

Domino died in New Orleans, surrounded by friends and family, according to his daughter.

His hits were epic ... "Blueberry Hill," "Ain't That a Shame" and "I'm Walkin'."

Sorry to say I didn't know he was still with us until now. :-)

R.I.P. to a true original.

For those who were not there, fact is rock 'n roll could have ended early. After Elvis entered the Army in 1958, and after The Day The Music Died early in 1959, and before The British Invasion exploded in 1964, the genre was kept alive principally by two performers. One was Chubby Checker, who kicked off The Twist and the whole dance craze. The other was Fats, whose music was rowdy enough for the kids yet restrained enough for their parents. Rest in peace, Fats. You were, and remain, a legend.

Godspeed Fats. I remember when I was very young we had a couple of his albums, and I loved listening to him sing.

Yeah, twenty years from now you can confirm to youngsters that there was indeed once a band called Foo Fighters. :-)

If I'm still able to put together a coherent sentence in 20 years, I'll be way above my own expectations. :-)

RIP Fats

Richie Cunningham killing it on "I found my thrill ..." just popped into my head and made me smile.
