Some arroz con pollo leftover from last night. It's the first time I've made it. It's my mother-in-law's recipe and she's 100% Cuban, though, so it was kind of hard to screw it up. :-)

Sweet potato/pastrami hash (meh, sounded better in my head), topped with a sunny side up fried egg, toast with whipped lardo (cured back fat, ground, whipped with lemon zest and fennel pollen).

Love that stuff. Seems so simple, but I am sure I would probably screw it up. Neighbor's mom and dad are Mexican born and live a few miles away. His mom is always cooking for her grand kids and bringing food over. Her chicken and rice is fantastic. Beauty of it is she knows I like it so when she makes it she always makes extra for me! Menudo every once in a while too - also excellent. I could try, but just never be as good as a Mexican Grandma cooking for her grandchildren. I'm just lucky I can horn in on the food when she brings it by. For the cuban version I pick it up once a week or so at La Carreta in MIA airport.

Had bone-in pork chops last night. Saved the bones and made a nice bean and kale soup tonight. Good bread and a hearty red table wine makes for a nice meal on a cold Midwestern night.

Just shredded up the left over top round I had smoked yesterday, there is a local BBQ place that will smoke any meet for a buck a pound, super convenient, anyway today I took the rest of the roast and shredded it up and dumped in some Fat Boys' bbq sauce and bammmmM! Awesome bbq beef sandwiches for tomorrow.

*the green thing is a piece of lettuce, I had lettuce in that container, I guess when I dumped it for the beef that piece really didn't want to go.

Well, get to cookin! :-)

Just fired up the grill for the first time this year. Grass fed beef burgers, a couple slices of a really nutty Gouda, some carmelized portobello and onion, lettuce and a bit of Lee & Perrins steak sauce. Damn that was good. Glad I have two more.

A home-brewed stout, a molasses cookie and my famous 4-4-4 omelette. Followed up by a smooth, medium strength NC. Enjoying cool shade, blue skies and a light breeze in the backyard, looking over my newly reseeded green lawn.

A late breakfast of a slice of crumb cake from Costco, a tall glass of orange juice, and a 20 oz. container of Chock Full O' Nuts Original coffee.

Left over homemade pizza from last night.

Basil, tomatoes and oregano from our garden, and wild hog sausage from a little piggie that wasn't quite quick enough. YUM-YUM!

Resurrecting a forgotten (but delicious) thread.

A friend gave us a bunch of homegrown heirloom tomatoes. Making tomato sauce from scratch today. Gonna mix in some of my homemade Italian sausage. This afternoon, a loaf of freshly made Italian bread and crack open a bottle of red wine.

Gonna be a good day.
