Yes we've come a long way from "You'll believe a man can fly" in Chris Reeves Superman. What's interesting is now you have JJ Abrams saying he wasn't to reverse that and the new Star Wars is going to rely more on huge sets, props, sound stages and as little CGI as possible.
BTW I am not a fan of 3D movies, specially action movies, everything looks like a colorful blur when there is a lot of action, this movie might not be terrible in 3D.
