Does anyone else have a pipe that they're reluctant to smoke because it's
too nice? I have a
Christiano that I bought from a BOTL here that is simply beautiful, but I don't smoke it much 'cause I don't want to spoil it. I've smoked it only twice and it smokes wonderfully.

I know how you feel. I have a couple that are strickly indoor pipes, due to a fear of rim char, but they are all meant to be smoked.

Not here. A pipe can be a piece of art, but part of the beauty of this art is the functionality. Smoke up!

Every pipe I have no matter the cost gets smoked. I buy them to smoke. But thats your choice I know people who do the same. What ever you do as long as you enjoy it be smoking or just looking thats what counts.

One, yes. It's a small Charatan straight pot from the mid 50s that is unsmoked. I just could never bring myself to smoke it, it's older than my dad and still looks new.

If it smokes wonderfully, go for it. I'd say smoke it on "special occasions".
My dad has a Meer he got while overseas in his travels to the Korean war. Its never been smoked and its mine when he passes away. I will never smoke out of ot though.

All very good advice! I think I'll try to smoke it more often.
:-)
It's kinda funny, I collect fountain pens and I tell others the same thing; a pen isn't happy unless it's being used.

This is a pipe SMOKERS forum, after all. Pipes that are saved would be correctly discussed in a pipe SAVERS forum. In fact I do have one pipe, a Paolo Becker cherrywood, that I cannot get my self to stuff with tobacco. Sometimes you just need to watch a new pipe for a while. But that's not the same as saving it. Is it?

I think you're right; once the "new-ness" wears off, I'll smoke it more often. I
have smoked it a couple of times, so I'm not just lookin' at it.

An unsmoked pipe is kind of like the one ring to rule them all, it will start looking for someone who appreciates it and will use it for it's intended purpose.
:-)
Smoke the bad boy.
Peace of the Lord be with you.
