Entertainment>Mike Starr of Alice in Chains Dies
icehog3 08:26 AM 03-09-2011
I love metal, hard rock, classic rock, I've got it all. And I loved AIC and Soundgarden. I like Pearl Jam and some Nirvana too. That's my opinion.

I understand that my opinion is opinion, not fact.....but that concept is apparently lost on some people.

Without a doubt, the WORST period in "Rock" history. Proof? How many of those bands are together right now?

Exactly.
Are you posting this while standing in line for your Bon Jovi tickets?

To get back on track, this is sad news and my condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans.

Just because someone doesn't particularly care for a genre of music doesn't mean that they have to be disrespectful in a thread like this.

RIP Mike Starr. 90's rock was great.

A sad day in the music world indeed...rip Mike

How did a discussion about the passing of an influential musician degenerate into what brand of kicks or musical genres were/are/will be popular?

The guy died ... just my opinion, but if someone didn't care for his music, please consider being respectful and pass on by or refrain from posting something that could be seen as denigrating the man.

RIP Mike Starr

I'm the man in the box, buried in my sh*t

One of the best concerts I have seen was AICs, better than Metallica, Guns-n-Roses. . .

Well, let's see here, another dead grunge musician who's only claim to fame was a few years in the spotlight - almost 20 years ago.

As for the grunge scene?

Enough said.

So, How many grunge bands are still together, Stephen? Any idea?

Layne Staley OD'd in '02....Mike Starr in '11.....their last album was 16 years ago (not to mention Mike Starr LEFT the band in 93)

Where's the E*Trade commercial for ""let me show you my shocked face".

AIC put on one of the best shows I've ever seen...and their last album, which came out in 2009 was fantastic

The problem is, Charles R. Cross (who's a hack by the way), and apparently you, are too dense to get what was going on. The, "grunge" scene was everything 80s, "glam" rock wasn't (which was an overbaked version of late 70s arena rock). It walked up, kicked it in the balls, and flipped it the bird.

Seriously?

How does that even remotely judge what they did when they were together making albums? Those Beatles, they must suck because their last studio album was released in 1970 (after they broke up) and all four members were still alive a decade after. Even up until late 2001 three of the four were still alive and active in the music industry. How about Led Zeppelin? They must suck too, since they last released a studio album 31 years ago and three of the original members are still alive and involved in the music industry.

Here's a nickel; go buy yourself a clue (or a thrift store flannel shirt if you so desire).

This is the real question. Someone starts a tribute thread for someone who just died, and you come in here to start shitting on his genre of music? Can't you see how this would be offensive to the people who might choose to post in this thread? Like if I went into a Troops Support thread and said something insulting or denegrating about the military?

Maybe it's not your opinion, but rather your choice of venue that is offensive to some of the people here....and I don't need to use the "shocked face", because we have all seen this story before.

Well said sir, well said.

I have always liked and worn flannel shirts. :-)

But I wash my hair (I still have plenty).

One of my favorite albums, one I listen to again and again, is Jar of Flies. It has a great variety of styles on it. I will listen to it again on the way to work today. My commute takes that long.

And that my friends pretty much sums it up.

A sympathy thread for someone who tried to capitalize on their drug addiction by a reality show?

Sympathy for someone who's only "claim to fame" was LEAVING A BAND EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO?

Gimme a break. I have more sympathy for the bugs on my windshield than any drug addict that pisses their life away or suck starts a shotgun.

Some of you act like you knew the guy personally. Please.

Another dead drug addict. Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection.

Yeah. We're supposed to feel SORRY for this guy?
