I like to play these kind of games. :-)
It's always fun to see what others think and how deep biases run.

Here's mine

C Yogi Berra
1B Lou Gherig
2B Joe Morgan
3B Brooks Robinson
SS Derek Jeter
OF Babe Ruth
OF Willie Mays
OF Mickey Mantle

SP Sandy Koufax
RP Mariano Rivera

I figure I'm gonna get killed on the Berra vs Bench and Jeter Vs Ripken arguments.
OF is a tough one, I felt you have to have Babe in there, and Willie and Mick are the the two greatest 5 tool players, IMO.
I put Morgan in at second, quite frankly because I couldn't think of anyone else, I thought of Sandburg, but was never really impressed by him.

What's your team?
Also, please feel free to debate me on mine! :-) :-)

I'm gonna go with my favorites, too. Plus I decided to cheat a bit, because there's just way too many excellent ball players to pick a team.
C Mike Piazza
1B Willie Stargell (Okay, he mostly played outfield, but it's my team)
2B Joe Morgan
3B Chipper Jones (love that kid)
OF Pete Rose
OF Barry Bonds (although I can't stand him)
OF Willie Mays
Util Mickey Mantle
Util Ken Griffey Jr.
Util Roberto Clemente

SP Greg Maddux (No one else is necessary.)
RP Mariano Rivera (who else?)

1B-Lou Gehrig
2B-Rogers Hornsby
3B-Mike Schmidt
SS-Honus Wagner
OF-Babe Ruth
OF-Willie Mays
OF-Ted Williams
OF-Ty Cobb(can't get down to just 3 OF's-loved his movie also)
C-Yogi Berra
SP-Christy Mathewson
RP-Mariano Rivera
DH-Frank Thomas

When I was a kid, I lived baseball and read every biography I could get my hands on. I grew up reading about many players who played and often died before I was even born. I'm pretty partial to the older players because they put up numbers that haven't been repeated without the asistance of performance enhancing drugs, the juiced ball, and change in pitching mound height.

It's a good pick if you choose to have a steroid user on your list. He's not going to make the HOF, so why he'd be on anybody's list is beyond me. Sadly, he would have still been a great player had he chosen not to juice up.

He's not going to make the HOF because of politics, not his play on the field. What he did between the stripes stacks up against anyone in MLB history. As an aside, I wonder how your list might look if you elimnated all those who took amphetamines. :-)

I'm not disputing Bonds didn't play like one of the best ever on the field. All I'm disputing is his ability to play at that level before he needed a bigger hat and shoes. He's a guy who would have been a 30/30 or 40/40 with a respectable average and RBi's before roids entered the picture.

As far as the greenies, you might as well ban Red Bull and coffee. They will have similar results.

Uh, he was a multiple MVP award winner before there were even whispers of alleged steroid use.

I'm not the one on a witch-hunt here, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.
