All Cigar Discussion>Lancero question

OK, I am really enjoying my Oliva V Lanceros - got a 5er of them. Was never much of a small ring gauge smoker, and not normally a fan of long smokes. I have had some, really enjoyed them, but for whatever reason they never became popular with me.

I have picked up a couple Taboo lanceros, and they were also good. I had a Trinidad Fundadore, and that was also excellent.

I must say, I like the way the wrapper leaf is highlighted in a well-rolled Lancero.

And that brings me to my dilemna. I have found a few Lanceros which have caused me to turn my head inside out trying to get a minimal amount of smoke, as they drew like a good wooden dowel.

What would you suggest for Lanceros that are consistently tasty, highlighting a unique taste or wrapper leaf, and which have never (or rarely) cause you draw issues?

Give an average price expectancy for them as well. Thanks.

Cubao lanceros are awesome as are the CAO LX2's if you can find em', HDM has a good one too. Keep in mind they are a "sippnig" vitola and you don't wanna puff them too hard. People often complain that they don't get as much smoke as they are used to but I still find it worth it.

DPG Blue and Black Lanceros are very good Todd...price would vary greatly depending on where you buy em. I would guess anywhere from 6-12 dollars depending on if you got a deal online or got em at a local B&M.

What RH are you storing them at?

I keep all of my cigars at 65% and while I have definitely had tight lanceros, for the most part mine smoke fine.

Sometime if it is close to the head, you can massage it to loosen it up a little. If that doesn't work, you probably have to pitch it sadly enough. :-) Nothing worse than puffing a lancero to death. When they burn hot the flavor goes south real quick.

The Illusione and Tatuaje lanceros I have smoked have drawn fine, same with the DPG blue label lanceros. I have had some tight el triunfador though.

Maybe you should try a lonsdale which has a bit more ring guage but not much more.

I've only had a few lanceris and they all seemed really plugged to me so I've really just stopped buying them. I'm worried they'll be plugged and I'll be wasting my money, which in cali is a tad more. So I personaly rather find a nice PC then chance more Lanceros

The V lancero is pretty much the top of the class for me.

I have only had one brand of Lancero that drew like a wooden dowel, and I won't mention which one it was - but all 5 that I tried drew that way.

I know Padron makes some thinner RG cigars as well. I don't think I have ever had a Padron that did not draw well.

Personally, I love the Oliva V and LX2 lanceros, Todd. I haven't had too many others that I know well enough to recommend.

I've also been trying some of the smaller ring gauge churchills - I'm smoking a Taboo HSG churchill right now that is excellent. :-)

Oh yeah, danny on these forums gave me one I think, and it was an amazing lancero. The Oliva V comes in on a close second.

The Olivia V is tops for NC lancero in my books, I also like the JdN Antanos from time to time, most of these have smoked well. DPG makes some nice ones I've enjoyed all of the ones from his lines I've had. Gran Habano Corojo No 5 is one I've had few of but they have also been tasty. Fire corojo made a lancero (actually outside of the standard size but close) that I enjoy for a cheapie, under 2 bucks for sure. I bought the last couple of bundles Famous had so I'm not sure if they can be had anywhere now. The Taboo lanceros I've had are also very nice, I forget what wrapper, corojo or criollo I think.

I have tried pretty much every NC lancero/panatela there is or was. Not bragging, just that size has always been my favorite vitola. The best to me have been (in no particular order):

Hirsh y Garcia lancero/panatela ~ $10 ea.
Reserva Mira Flor lancero ~ $7 ea.
Habanos Torres 20yr lancero ~ $15 ea.
Non Cello Oliva V lancero ~ $5 ea.
Original Release Padilla 1932 lancero ~ $10 ea.
Casa Fernandez Lancero ~ $6 ea.
Opus X petite Lancero ~$12 ea.

Although I am a Pepin whore, I find that his personal lines of lancero's are lacking. The same with Tatuaje (Pete Johnson) lancero's.

I have only smoked a few lanceros, and I haven't had a good experience with them. Entirely my fault I think, because I tent to smoke them too fast and get em hot.
