All Cigar Discussion>Cigar mishaps and the like...

What's the worst "mishap" that's happened to you in your cigar 'career,' so to speak? The reason I ask is that I had a misadventure earlier and I'm curious to hear as to whether something similarly disastrous might have happened to any of you?

You know how it is when you are getting ready to fire one up, you already have it clipped, punched, etc. and then your significant other comes up with an emergency errand for you to run? So, as a dutiful husband does, I carefully laid my cigar on the edge of the desk and headed out to do the errand. Coming back with my hands full of sacks I walk in the door, heading for the kitchen with the sacks, when I feel myself stepping on something laying in the floor, as well as hearing a crunch. I'm guessing she walked by while I was gone and one inadvertent bump to my desk, and off it fell. :-)

Thank God it wasn't a really good one. It looks too far gone for duct tape. Woe is me.

Did the same thing with a nice cigar that I had in my car years ago. I got out and the cigar fell out, but I didn't see it fall or even remember it was in the car. I felt my foot hit something long and soft, and the first thought I had was "Gah! A giant praying mantis!", and I stomped it dead as hard as I could with my foot. Yup, my cigar was dead, all right. :-)

Why would you stomp a giant praying mantis? Just wondering.

If I saw one, I would just watch it in awe. But when you unexpectedly step on something in bare feet, your feet work faster than your brain.

So let's just say it was a tarantula. :-)

Ah, you were barefoot. Okay, that makes a little more sense.

Still I don't go around stomping valuable parts of the eco system.

Tarantulas aren't usually poisonous to humans.

I'm just better at not stomping large praying Mantises.

Worst cigar mishap?

Lighting an 80's Dunhill Mojito. It tasted like tar and I could not get a good taste out of it to save my life.

Went to a herf, arrived early, opened the travel humi and pulled out a stick. Someone asked if they were Cubans and I said yes. Next thing I know, I had 10 people all asking for a stick. Never saw any of them again either - they didn't even call!

Went to a herf and pulled out a CoRo and from across the room comes a guy who started bugging me about the cigar. Even goes as far as asking me if I had any more and if I'd like to trade for one of his larger format Cohiba or Monte something he got in Mexico.

The funny thing is that Vin looked at me with the "Don't do it they are fake" look. The following year Vin opens his travel-dor at this similar herf and that same guy runs across the room and starts bugging Vin about them. He even asks for trades...I was kind enough to give Vin the same look back. :-)

Not paying attention and leaving a cigar in a single baggie behind.

I bet it tasted good. :-)

Lit the wrong end, put the ash end in my mouth, burn myself with the ash end, picked up someone elses cigar... I've done it all.

A couple of times, while driving I dropped my cigar when I went to set it in my ashtray. Major hassle trying to retrieve it while driving... I have done this only twice and both times with my friend's son in the car... Go figure.

Also, one time I cut the cigar, set it down to retrieve my lighter and then lit the wrong end... smoked really weird....

Went to the store and picked up a smoke and some beer, went out and set the cigar in the drip rail of the trunk while I made room for the beer. I finally had everything put away and closed the trunk or at least tried to....a couple of times.....doh !
