WhoDeySchenk 06:17 AM 10-05-2009
now THAT was some piss poor football! I LOVE how the Bengals seem to play to the level of their opponents. A wins a win...but at this rate? I almost turned the TV off in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. No first downs at all in the 2nd & 3rd quarters. WOW...all goes to crappy play calling! Good job Bratkowski, keep up the "good" work!

Who Dey!

They are definitely finding a way to win the close ones while looking like absolute garbage for all but one drive in the game. I fear there is no way they can continue to do this the rest of the season. Still have two games versus a very good Ravens team, at the Steelers and the Browns already proved they can play with them. We'll see if they can continue to be the heart-attack kids and pull out the squeekers. :-)

They need to get a kicker who kicks it more than 3 feet above the line and a holder who can get a snap down. :-)

The holder doesn't matter when the snap is 5 feet above his head. It was either the Denver or Green Bay game when it looked like he was snapping for a punt and went clear over the holders head.

One snap was his fault against the Broncos, which became a moot point on the final play of the game regardless. The two yesterday were Shayne's fault. :-)

Yeah, it probably was. Still, I don't like St. Louis.

You can count the number of bad snaps in his CAREER on one hand. Just so happens that one happened this year and another probably cost them a shot at the playoffs in 2006. :-)

That extra point only would have sent it to OT and there is no guarantee from there. And Shayne missed a kick at the end of regulation in the last game of the regular season against the Steelers that would have guaranteed a playoff spot. Never trust a kicker. :-)

Its early. They have their first true test this weekend against a team much better than the Browns. :-)

Are you starting to sweat our bet about the Bengals making the playoffs?

seems I wasn't the only one disgusted w/ St. Louis' performance lately...

Bengals audition long snapper

By Joe Reedy • jreedy@enquirer.com • October 6, 2009

It appears that Brad St. Louis has held on to the long snapper job for another week, even though the team did bring in Nathan Hodel for a visit.

Tuesday, which is the players’ off day, is usually the day when teams bring in free agents for visits or tryouts.

St. Louis has had four errant snaps during the first four weeks of the season, including two in last Sunday’s 23-20 overtime win against Cleveland. Hodel was Arizona’s long snapper for seven seasons and played in 112 straight games before signing with New England during the offseason. He was released by the Patriots on Aug. 31.

Other options that the Bengals might consider are JP Darche and Bryan Pittman. Darche spent last season with Kansas City while Pittman, who is supposed to have a tryout with San Diego this week, was with Houston.

The Bengals did have college free agent James Smith in during minicamp, but it would be highly doubtful that they would replace St. Louis, a 10-year veteran, with a rookie.

St. Louis and Chad Ochocinco are the only players who have been on the Bengals roster since before Marvin Lewis became coach in 2003.

Yeah Steve, St. Louis needs to go. Adam doesn't think St. Louis needs to go, but when you only have 1 job on a team and you can't do it, you need to go. This isn't little league, this is the pros.

Learn some football Dan. :-)

The guy has less than 5 bad snaps in his career that resulted in missed field goals. Call the two last week bad all you want, but when the holder doesn't get out of his stance and the ball is down, you have to blame Shayne just as much. No one is calling for his head. Shayne used to be the most acurate outdoor kicker in the history of the NFL in 2005. :-)

Well, we will have to agree to disagree. I think it is in Brad's head. Well, lets see how he does this week :-)

Like I said, if the ball is down, its no longer the snappers fault. Lets not forget that Shaun Rodgers has blocked 15 FG/PAT's in his career too. Call it what you want, but no one complained about the guy for the first 9 years and now all of a sudden Shayne gets two blocked and the Bengals still find a way to win and everyone is calling for the snappers head? :-)

On a better note, we get to see if the Bengals even get close enough against the Ravens defense this week to kick field goals. :-)
