Island (The other ones) Reviews>Don Pepin Garcia series JJ maduro belicoso
Don Fernando 09:47 AM 01-24-2011
The previous Don Pepin Garcia JJ maduro I smoked and reviewed I absolutely loved. I love the natural JJ series too, but the maduro is just a little bit better and one of the few maduros to leave the Don Pepin Garcia factories. I smoked the 5¾x52 cellophane wrapped belicoso.

Image

The top of the cigar is quite blunt and the dark wrapper is oily with just a few veins. The construction feels good and the predraw is fine. I taste tobacco.

Image

First flavor I get is a high dose of pepper with a mild sweetness. The strength of the pepper fades away a bit and I also taste some wood. The maduro sweetness slowly gains some strength and after a third I also taste leather. The leather slowly gets stronger with a peppery aftertaste, the flavors are mild sweet.

Image

After two thirds I get some herbs, wood, leather, pepper and that sweetness, the flavors are well balanced and quite complex for a Don Pepin Garcia blend. Near the end I get a lot of pepper, sweetness en wood.

Image

This cigar lasted me an hour and fifteen minutes. I got a lot of thick smoke with a great draw and a straight burn. The ash is firm and almost white. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied, I had a mild nicotine overdose after smoking this baby.

Would I buy this cigar again? Hell yeah.

Thanks for the review. These are good, but I love the JJ Maduro Robusto better. I cannot stand the regular JJ's.

They are a potent but tasty stick, I like the Selecto size.

I actually like the Natural JJ too (but I don't like the DPG Blue :-))

One of the few Pepin labeled smokes I like. I love the dark flavors I get from this smoke. Great review!

Regular JJ belicoso's are among my favorites. Need to try the maddie.

I like all of DPGs line but I LOVE the JJ Maduro, especially in the robusto.

I had a JJ Maduro at my B&M a couple months back and it was good. Not quite on par with my go-to stick (the DPG blue), but it was good. I'll have to revisit soon.
