It's starting to cool down here in Wi which means the rodents are trying to find there way into the house. Had a mouse in the house yesterday and that cat proved her value. Just snapped the sucker with one swat. So we rearmed the traps and prepare to fend off the seasonal invaders. Then tonight we hear a trap snap and this is what we catch. WTF???
If you do not like rodents do not click the links.

(sorrry don't have access to photoshop at the moment so I couldn't resize the pics)
And whatever that was sticking out of the lump on the back of the dead mouse was moving. My skin is still crawling and I am not particularly thin skinned. That was just freaking nasty. Anyone have any ideas on WTF that nastiness was? It's like some other creepy crawly burrowed into the living mouse and was just making itself at home. It was on the back so I don't think it was babies. The part sticking out also looked somewhat insectoid/arachnid so I don't know if there is some kind of crazy spider or something.

It was probably some type of worm.

I suppose it could be a worm that just seemed pretty big. The diameter of the end sticking out was like a decent sized night crawler. Anyone know of any links to info about a parasitic worm of this size?

Have you ever seen the brain worms? The doctors thing it is cancer until they operate and find a huge worm in the brain.

The tsetse fly plants their eggs on host animals (normally bovine) and the larva grows and feeds on the hosts body...could be some species like that. I saw once where a guy had 5 tsetse flys growing in his scalp...and the magots were FREAKING HUGE!

No. It caught me by surprise when I saw the larvae moving when the mouse was clearly deceased but I had no interest in messing with it.
Like I said I'm not generally squeamish but this was pretty repulsive. I don't even want to think about the brain worms.
Thanks for helping me figure out what it was. The good news is the human infecting botflys don't seem to live north of mexico. I took a shower anyway. :P

I saw a thing on botflys, it CAN happen. The botfly's attack mosquitoes and lay their eggs on the mosquitoes and surround the eggs in wax. Then when the mosquitoes land on you, your body heat melts the wax and the eggs/larva get on your skin and implant themselves.

OMG, that picture is horrible with the worm/larva hanging out of the skin.

Bot flies are quite common, there are a lot of vids on youtube and whatnot about them. I dig this kinda stuff, but then again I am kinda weird like that lol
