Doesn't look like this thread is very active, but I need a little advice.

What brands would you recommend to someone that hasn't had any prior cognac experience? My budget would be around $120, not sure how much decent cognacs cost.

Introduced to Remy a couple of years ago while on a cruise.

I am partial to Pierre Ferrand as it was being made in the early 1700's and has a great taste to it. While it is made in France it is made in a very good region along with their wines.

Hennessy VSOP is a very good cognac, need to order a new bottle from a friend who is a flight attendant and can get them tax free.

Pierre Ferrand is very hard to beat. They offer an excellent value and are one of leaders for the real Cognac fan. Tesseron is another brand worth searching for.

PF just blows away the big names like it's not even funny. No carmel coloring and and BS like Remy and like do...

My favorite is A. Hardy Cognac Noces d'Or 50 Yr Old 750ml (second picture) which sells for around $200. It is the same cognac which comes in A. Hardy Captain Noces D'Or Decanter Cognac 50 Years Old 750ml which sells for as much as $1600.

Pic of the Captain.

Amazing how much they charge for a fancy decanter. Go for the regular bottle and you can enjoy a 50 year old cognac for just over what many of the XO's go for. A real nice special occasion drink for cognac drinkers.
