Wine, Beer, and Spirits>nice rums?
OLS 01:41 PM 06-25-2010
I am not known as a commonsewer or anything, and I don't know $hi+ about letting it breathe,
but I was pleased (and bummed) that something someone said in this thread was true.
Rob Bacardi Select is good. I am not sure what else they said, but I tasted a swig off the bottle
of that, and another identical swig offn a bottle of Anejo 7 HC and the HC tasted like thinner
and the RCS tasted pretty damn good. It is true what they say, don't pine away for HCR just
cause it's hard to get. And whatever you do don't have it shipped from London. Then it
really takes a slap in the face and turns it into a punch in the n__s.

Ron Zacapa 23 year
Zaya 12 year
Don Q Grand Anejo

Some of the best.

Hmmm - I have three bottles of Plantation Rum:

Old Reserve Barbados 1995
Old Reserve Trinidad 1991
Old Reserve Jamaica 8 years old

The Trinidad and Jamaica bottles have wax caps on them.
Looking to get the Grenada, Guyana, Panama and Nicaragua bottles also.
Will have to see if I can find the Grande Reserve.

Ron Zacapa 23 and XO are my favorites, followed closely by Zafra 21 and Zaya.

Roaring Dan rum made by Great Lakes Distillery in Milwaukee is excellent! That's the only rum I buy anymore and it's great that it's made locally in Milwaukee. I took some to a herf this past summer and it was the first bottle emptied!

I picked up a bottle of Diplomatico 12 Reserva, and wow...very very good. I actually think I enjoy it over Zacapa 23. Better value, too. :-)

While in DC this past weekend, I popped into Shellie's for an impromtu visit and had a Zacapa XO. Awesome! I haven't been able to find it nearby though.

You may want to try comparing and contrasting the agricole vs. molasses rums and see what you like of each.
Good luck in the journey. The absolutely great thing about rums, other than the individual appeal to your palate, is that compared to scotches and whisk(e)ys, you can get some huge bang for your buck, and experience some of the finest spirits of the type for a fraction of the costs. I am no expert, but I know what makes my mouth happy.. .(that sounded...er... dirty...) Oh, and my wallet.

All 3 are very decent rums. My fav of the three is Pyrat! In fact, I just opened a bottle yesterday.

Ok guys, I being a Rum noob need your help. I never was a liquor drinker because I thought it tasted like ass.

Sooo the Rum I bought is good, I like the sweet Rums. Can you all list for me the good sweet Rums? Not the oak tastes I hear everyone speak of.

Hope this requests makes sense.

Do we all have the tendency to collect/use everything we enjoy? I am already picking up a cabinet to add to the room where the humidor is with lighting for my Rums :-)

Shawn,

It's just another of the many, many slopes, open to those of us, who venture out and seek the things we enjoy and love!

BTW Shawn, Ron Zacapa are high quality rums that tend to be on the sweet side, but not overly so.
