I've been working as a contractor for my current employer since November of last year (I work in the automotive field...engineering). Over the past two months my boss was talking to me about taking me on as a direct employee, but he's a really busy guy and the conversation went cold a couple of times. Well, as of a couple of weeks ago, the company extended an offer and I accepted! Nice plan as far as benefits, too, plus a couple of bucks an hour raise...Since I was working there for so long even as a subcontractor, they gave me two weeks of paid vacation plus immediate eligibility in their benefits plan. The boss told me that everyone spoke well of me, that I know what I'm doing, so why not hire me in?

Full time....Yeah I've been on overtime since I started there last year!
:-) But it's good to not be a "temp" with no bennies at all, and knowing that if there's a downturn, the contractors are the first out of the door.
