Buddy of mine goes to SC every year a couple times, and always brings me back some BBQ. No clue what restaurants they are from.

I'm actually a fan of all bbq. I know I would like the carolina style, because we have "carolina style" here at several places. KC is kind of the melting pot of bbq.

Bob is notorious for describing gourmet magic in the zombie thread... then I, stuck at work, read descriptions of his "culinary wizardry" and go home to bagel bites... lol jk :-)

So back to the OP... anyone know any homemade BBQ sauce recipes?

Im in KC a few times a year. Jack Stack and Gates are both stops for me regularly. Agreed - I do the combo with brisket and burnt tips with a side of mac and cheese and some sort of veggies. Always awesome.

Oklahoma Joes is really good too, but I dont get there as often due to proximity.

I like ALL Barbecue, Carolina, Texas, Memphis, KC, you name it. Chicago is almost a BBQ wasteland compared to those cities... but Illinois does have 17th Street BBQ which I would put up against any in the country.

They are all far away in Southern Illinois unfortunately - Marion, Murphysboro, and East St Louis... www.17thstreetbarbecue.com

Closer to home there is a place called Chucks in Burbank that is pretty good on an "on" night, but not too great on an off day... Worth a drive though - www.chuckscafe.com .

Ever since Famous Daves closed in Palatine, there has been a barbecue drought around here...

Never liked Famous Dave's myself....I am a fan of the Texan in Algonquin.

Famous Dave's was ok. I've been to one in Nashville. Not bad but not great either
