Personally, I think there are worse things that can kill an individual...after finishing my recent deployment, I thought about this for some time.... I think people lose sight of the bigger picture...just my 2 cents..

Not to sound insensitive to those who have suffered, but how many people don't die every year from second hand smoke?

Ok, so if 600,000 people are dying from second hand smoke shouldn't the amount of people dying from 1st hand smoke be 10 fold. I've always had a hard time buying these numbers. Do they account for polution, family history, or personal health?

Who are these 600,000 people that are getting so much 2nd hand smoke THEY DIE. I'm thinking these numbers are completely made up.

There's a million things you can die from...what are you going to do live in a bubble?

Check out Joe Jackson's take on the secondhand smoke issue. You can download the PDF via the button close to the top of the page:

I plan on dieing from 1st hand smoke.

Did you know the number one cause of death is breathing air? Every person who has every taken a breath of air has died. Maybe we should ban breathing.

I'm still waiting for scientists to perform a study to determine the overwhelming #1 cause of death: BIRTH.

Bunch of BS to say 2nd hand smoked "caused" those deaths. So much for real science and statistics.

Those were my thoughts exactly. We all know the "research" is probably government funded. So during the next congressional session a new tax will placed on tobacco due to "overwhelming" research in regards to how dangerous tobacco really is!!!

Second hand smoke.......... that may also include those overpopulated areas that have 23gazillion smoke producing vehicles too....
Think about it, you ever see the car infront of you thats smoking more, sitting there, than you do in a whole month? Thats "second hand" smoke too i bet!

People come by me sometimes and say "eww second hand smoke!!" I look at them and say, "Its a free country, so you are free to walk your ass on down the street".

BTW: My mom smoked 2 packs of cigs a day while pregnant with my brother and I. I'm 6'5'' and he is 6'6''. We lived in secondhand smoke until we moved out of the house. I smoked cigs for about 5 years. I have no problems other than sinus issues because of the way my head is built. The operative word on having health issues from smoking is "predisposed". If you are predisposed to have problems you will. If you show moderation in use and are not predisposed to having problems, your risk is too low to worry about.

BTW #2: They are using this study to expand already intrusive smoking bans in the US. Indiana is on the bandwagon for a complete ban in public places.

And there is NO WAY 600,000 dying from second hand smoke can be proven. However, Radon gas has been linked as the silent killer.

If you read the article carefully, you will see that the 600,000 number is a scientific estimate. It's NOT based on any REAL number, and can't be proven. IMO, just another way for the various money-grabbers to scare everyone into doing what they want. Just like the smoking bans based on "second-hand" smoke are ALL base on one, single study from the past, that has never been proven as true in any subsequent studies!! It's ALL based on what some PAID scientist said, and I have NO respect for scientist these days. Too much that is called scientific fact is simply a scientist who is paid to achieve a stated conclusion!!!!
