What a true loss. I always loved his voice, even when cancer ravaged it. Would have loved to have gone to one of his midnight rambles. RIP Levon.

He was great in their band movie The Last Waltz, and he has done a few acting roles where he was just perfectly cast,
or did a great job of being a character like himself.

(Excerpted and fantastic) While Helm would accuse Robertson of being on a star trip, Helm, ironically,
was the more successful actor, with acclaimed roles in "Coal Miner's Daughter," ''The Right Stuff" and
other films. And no one who watched "The Last Waltz" could forget Helm's performance of "Dixie Down,"
shot mostly in closeup, his face squeezed with emotion.

Absolutely gutted over here. Incalculable influence on me.

Some words from Garth:

"LEVON HELM LEFT US TODAY AT 1:30 PM, THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2012. I AM TERRIBLY SAD. THANK YOU FOR 50 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP AND MUSIC. MEMORIES THAT LIVE ON WITH US. NO MORE SORROWS, NO MORE TROUBLES, NO MORE PAIN. HE WENT PEACEFULLY TO THAT BEAUTIFUL MARVELOUS WONDERFUL PLACE. HE WAS BUDDY RICH'S FAVORITE ROCK DRUMMER ... AND MY FRIEND. LEVON, I'M PROUD OF YOU."- Garth

Robbie Robertson has not released an official statement (yet) but it was really nice to read he spent a good long time with Levon over the weekend. Hopefully they buried the hatchet.

Go easy Levon. I know that Richard and Rick are up in there just dying to jam again.

A true legendary musician has passed away. I am sad as I have always been a fan of The Band and his solo stuff was very good as well. Rock on Levon, may flights of angels sing him to his rest.
