Accessory Discussion / Reviews>Lighters other than a PB-207?
chenvt 04:19 PM 12-06-2009
I've had it with Blazer.. They suck.. My second blazer and second to clog up.. the other day I was at a herf, filled it up with high quality fuel like I normally do, and then no butane coming out when I try to light.. I know some folks swear by them and love them, but I've had two bust on me.. I've spent money on high quality fuel, babied the stupid things, and done everything possible and it still happens..Seriously, after spending a total of $80 on two of these and then more to get lava butane, Blazer can kiss my ass

So I'm looking for lighters other than a PB-207 to use.. I have the little ronsons, but looking for a bit more powerful of a flame and with more fuel capacity.. I've seen folks with the massive lighters that look like they belong on crack pipes more than cigars, but they seem to get the job done, have a big tank, and won't crap out on me..

Here is a link that has many suggestions for table top lighters: (I use a Solder-It brand and it is fabulous)

I believe the Blazers used to be produced in the U.S. of A. but have moved to a Chinese production which might explain your problems even though they have a good reputation with many.:-)

If you missed it they will replay it on the Monster Mash at 11:00 EST tonight for 1 hour. Nice lighter and they had it for $19.95/Free Shipping which is a very good price. It is manufactured by Vector who makes excellent stuff.:-)

The Perdomo Logo Vector Thundra is designed to toast and light your cigars with ease while adding a fine cigar accessory to your smoking space. Standing a full 3½-inches high, this powerful triple flame torch sports a rugged gunmetal satin finish, and will provide years of hassle-free operation.

I suggest looking at the lighters from Xikar. Good looks, reasonable prices and a no questions asked life time warranty! I own a couple and love em!:-)

I'd check out the S.T. Dupont Maxi Jet (x-tend) The fuel tank isn't nearly as big as the Blazer and you have to have an adapter to fill it (which I haven't found yet) otherwise you have to use dupont fuel. But the lighter is reliable as h*ll and the C-bid has some good deals on it <$100...

I've been using a Porsche Design PD4 which I picked up new off ebay for not a lot of money. It's typical Porsche quality and works perfectly all the time. It'a on of the larger ones so it has more than adequate fuel capacity. Porsche Design makes really good torch lighters.

Hey Steve, I have an older X-tend (made in France) and I only use Vector fuel in it without needing an adaptor. I don't know if the fill valve was changed on the newer Maxi jets made in China or not though, but using the Vector fuel will save ya some coin if it works.:-)

For $100 that lighter had better light my cigar completely hands-free and pour me a drink while I'm waiting... :-)

I also have an older one that I fill with Vector and one of the adaptors it comes with. Never had a problem with it, great lighter but don't use it too much anymore as I prefer my solder-it torch and mostly just use the Ronson for touch ups to save wear on my X-tend as it is more for "special occasions".:-)

Originals were always produced in Japan as a soldering tool for precision work (think jewelry).

I have a bunch of Blazers I bought in mid 90s and they all still work without a hitch. Perhaps OP is not filling them right? I cannot imagine Blazers failing. But then again, I have never had any issues with Colibris, either, so...

Hard to beat the Ronson for reliability and price.

Ronson's are a decent lighter, but have little fuel capacity and no way to see the fuel level. I suggest the Guang Da. Under $2.00 when you buy 3. http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4179

PM me your addy Dan and I will send you a Ronson and a Guang Da for comparison. :-)
