Accessory Discussion / Reviews>Lowering the Rh of a small humidor.

So I dont really know if its an issue with my climate, humidor, or to many beads. Heres my situation.

I have a small humidor w/ a window that will probably hold about 75-100 sticks. (I know..... ill be upgrading at some point.) It sat in a cabinet inside for about a year so i went threw the whole process of reconditioning it with distilled water for 3 days to make sure all the wood wasnt dried out. Wiped it down for every 12 hours with a small bowl of warm distilled water in between 12 hour wipe downs. Now i have a puck of 65%rh beads and have recently added a small bowl of the beads. The temp hangs out around 65-67 degrees.

After day one with just the puck it dropped from 75% to 72% but all the beads were clear after that, so i swapped them out with some fresh ones. and after addeding the new ones and the other bowl of beads its down to 70%. Im guessing i have a leak or something somewhere. My location has been right around 90% humidity for a few weeks now. Could I have too many beads in there.... im doubting this.... Ive got some 70% gel, but thats not gonna help me getting it below 70%

What are yall suggestions on how i can dry it up a little bit?

Analog or digital hygro? Assuming the hygro is correct, try a dry water pillow or even silica desiccant to help dry things up a bit.

I would recommend DampRid packets...can get them at Home Depot or hardware store. Come in little sachets (I think that's the word) about 3" by 3" and will absorb tons of humidity. I used two of them in my Avallo and they worked like a charm.

I would just ask somebody that works there.

Pretty sure they were near/in the painting aisle, some sales associate will know what you mean...they make a variety of products under the brand name.

Put one of those spy cameras on it so you can watch it on your PC at work :-)

besides using the damprid and dry water pillow, you could also not have your beads as wet, or even put them in there dry until you get it stable and it needs some RH. I believe I sent you some 65%, but I cant remember.
Those should help get it down and keep it that way, but Im having high humidity issues here with all our rain, so what do I know LOL

Update and new problem:

Im guessing this little Humi I have doesnt seal very well.... but i am in the process of getting a wine cooler and making the switch to a larger humi.

Now with the humidity gone around here im now stuck trying to raise the humidity. With two bowls of distilled water i cant get it over 60% ... well it was 61 yesterday but now back to 60. Anything I can do besides taping off the lid to try for a better seal till i can get the sticks in their new home?

60% is fine as long as you like they way they smoke. I keep mine between 59-63%
