Arent you going to smoke cigars out of it? The simple process of opening up the caddy to grab out a cigar is more than enough to "exchange" the air.

I think a lot of people get worked up about air exchange...some people store their cigars airtight for decades and think the lack of air exchange is actually a positive thing. I dont think youll have to worry about a couple months. :-)

I guess I could open it once a week at least (which shouldn't be a problem).

You must've missed the other part of my quote? :-)

FWIW, I would be willing to store my best cigars in ziplock bags for extended periods of time.
Not much different than tupperware, a cooler, or a cigar caddy as far as keeping humidity in.

Cigar storage is one of the things people obsess over more than necessary, IMHO.

No, I saw it. But from your post you made it seem like it had to be opened to air out. Like I said before:

Cool. Thanks for the advice! I may have to consider it.

I actually like the idea that someone said earlier about using ziplocks or five-finger bags inside a cigar caddy without the foam so I can fit more. That might be the best idea.

I may even bring my cabinetta... but maybe not.

Oh. No. I was trying to (and apparently failing to) be clever in saying that it'll get opened at least once a week for a smoke.

And "air exchange" :-)

I keep cigars in a ziplock at work with a small bag of Shilala beads during the warmer months to have a smoke on my drive home.

Can I use my 40count, or one of my desktops, sure... but like Julian said, the ziplock works just as well, although it doesnt provide the protection of some other options.

I always take a small cigar caddy with me when I travel but I always take more cigars than fit in a caddy. I use ziplocks for the extras. Once I used some tupperware, but more for protection from the rest of the contents in my backpack than anything else. I use the small caddy when I am at my destination and want to carry my cigars without damaging them.

Ziplocks are great! And, like Moe said, if you are going to be using the Ziplock for awhile in a drier climate you can always throw a small bag of beads or a Boveda pack in with them.

The problem with traveling with a larger caddy or humidor is that they are bigger, weigh more, and take up more space. Not much of a problem for a road trip, but is a real issue when flying...

Thanks again guys. I'll be driving, so the space isn't as much of an issue and I do want the crush protection while they are packed away in my car with my other belongings.

not sure if it ends up being cheaper but I would check Ebay for a pelican case. Just match the model number to something that has the same dimensions as a cigar caddy.

Good ideas as well.

Thanks.

Not sure your time frame but I've seen the large pelican cases without foam go for pretty cheap.

I'm looking to get something by the end of April, so I've got time.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the offer Dan! I'll let you know, but really, I could probably use one after this summer, so I should just buy one.

Thanks again!
