All Cigar Discussion>In or Out of the Box?
ujponds 01:29 PM 02-24-2011
I have a few full boxes in my cooler. I am not really aging them, I smoke out of them regularly.

My question is: Even though I'm in and out of the boxes it is still better to keep 'em in the box as opposed to taking them out and having them loose on a tray, am I right? I really don't have the room to take them all out without stacking them 4-5 deep.

Should I worry about humidity inside the boxes even though they are in my cooler?

They will be fine in the boxes they came in.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking just wanted to hear it from someone else.

The advantages of the boxes are 1) organization and 2) protection -- keeps the wrappers from getting banged up.

If you are not short on space I would keep them in the boxes...

+1 on the boxes. I'm all for organization and maintaining wrappers intact. Like Michael said if you're not short on room keep them in the box.

Now if ou are running out of room....time to upgrade:-)

I keep them they way they came to me. Seems to work well that way.

I'm with these guys. I wish everything was in a cello, too.

Ha! I wish it wasn't! And even though I can take it out I don't, but I'm less likely to buy if it is in cello. In fact, I've never bought a cello box.

Once the box is opened, I take them out of the box, take the cello off and put the cigars back in the box.

I hate cello, I know it helps keep you from tearing the occassional foot or something but I just hate it and dispose of it as soon as I can.

I just keep a supply of five-finger bags in case I need to bomb someone :-)

Why do you hate cello so much?

They not only help protect them but they help hold the humidity stable. UNLESS the box has cardboard in it! In that case, GET IT OUT!!!

Mainly the look of the cigar.

Cello helps stabilize humidity?
On what do you base that?

I think he was referring to the box, not cello.

Cardboard and paper won't hurt anything. Some boxes sit for years, decades even, in vendor and private humidors with cardboard & paper.

I like to shop the boxes in mine.

I keep mine in the box until I either only have a couple left or I am in need of more space. As far as cello, I don't typically like it but when they come in it I usually keep them the way I get them.

Just my $.02

I keep my smokes in their boxes and strongly prefer boxes over singles. IMO it keeps the cigars in better storing condition and not getting all banged up.
