Hey Inmates - Well, I hit another good plug yesterday in an otherwise tasty HdM, and decided I need a draw tool. What do you guys suggest?

Believe it or not I've seen some people use drill bits. If you do a search someone a while back was making some custom draw tools.

slickster81 is the man. Plus he'll make your draw tool look like a cigar :-)

In case you can't nail down a custom draw tool maker...

I really enjoy my Don Salvatore draw tool. Got the one in the shape of a pen, and it has the serrated edges on it. Wound up pulling it down in a group buy.

Just use a large paperclip, unfolded arrow-straight about 4". Be careful or you puncture the wrapper. Stiff enough to get through cleanly, not so big it will split the stick.

The problem with paperclips is that it often just moves the tobacco aside, then after it is removed, the tobacco expands to fill the hole you;ve justv made. Serrated edges on a draw poker work nicely, as they remove some of the obstructing tobacco from the cigar itself.

It may not be pretty, but it does the job....

I use a cut piece of a wire coat hanger, sharpened, with the other end bent into a handle.... Sounds like I might have to add some serrations.

I have had many draw tools.
Overall, they have all been OK.

HOWEVER, in time, I got tired of using them and instead of taking aspirin for a headache, I got rid of the root cause of the headache.
I now just feed my lake with cigars whenever they don't draw right. The joy of smoking them seems to leave me the moment I start struggling with them.
