Wine, Beer, and Spirits>The Bourbon Thread!!
RevSmoke 09:14 AM 12-21-2020
One of my members knows I like bourbon, and asked me if I had ever heard of the line of Horse Soldier Bourbons. Supposedly, the story is that this is the creation of a group of guys who were Green Berets that went into Afghanistan via horseback shortly after the events of 9/11.

My member asked me about it, and then he did that I should expect a bottle for Christmas. I looked it up on my phone, but it wasn't loading the way I thought it should.

Given our groups thoughts about supportive troops, didn't know if you all had heard about this before or not. And if you did what your thoughts were.

Piece of the Lord be with you.

Here is the link to their story. I know I should not be a skeptic, and I'd like to think that if these guys were scamming, some green beret would have already gone and kicked their asterisk, but...

I have seen it at my local stores, Todd, and heard some of the stories including that their bottles are pressed in molds made from World Trade Center steel. Have not tried it, would if I saw it in a restaurant or bar. You'll have to let us know your thoughts when you receive and open it. A very thoughtful gift for sure.

Well, it got dropped off at suppertime. Done with evening meeting, it is my evening pour. It is the "bronze" label version, the "straight" bourbon, not the "small batch" or the "barrel strength" Interestingly, the tasting notes are fairly close to what I picked up. It was/is very smooth and tasty. I do get the notes of caramel and also hints of fruit.

I enjoyed it very much.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

Love Eagle Rare. It is tough to find recently, but it is probably one of my favorites.

Got word that one of my favorite local spots had an OWA pick out when they opened at 8am yesterday, I went by today hoping there would be more and there were about 30 people in front of me with the same idea. When they opened the line moved in and they handed everybody an Eagle Rare pick, couldn't say no to that but wish it was OWA. I may go in the morning the next few days to see what they have those days, even though the line is just gonna get longer

Before checking out I walked past the case and on the bottom they had a 1792 12 year tucked away for $55, apparently I couldn't say no to that either :-)

I'm able to grab Eagle Rare semi-regularly at Binny's. Most of the other places have it too far over MSRP.

Sorry you missed the OWA pick, Ben. They had an OWA at Binny's (non store pick) a few days ago, bought it and traded it on FB for a 14 year 11 month Knob Creek 120 proof store pick today.

Went back this morning on my way home from the office, got there the same time but today there was at least 75 people in front of me. By the time I got to the door the line to get in the store was just an extension of the cash register line, and right in the middle of all that there was a guy handing out Blantons :-)

Thinking about cracking the "almost Hazmat" Old Carter. See how it goes. How about you, Ben? Anyone else have a plan?

Grabbed a different Tumbling Dice SiB SP from the store that picked the NKOTB barrel. If it's half as good as the other, I'm happy.

Planning on picking up a fancy shmancy sample from a local bar's December whiskey calendar today. Other than that I'll probably pull out something nice, I have a few other good samples I got from friends that wouldn't be bad to try out, also have some nice bottles I may open over the next couple days. I'll post what I end up deciding on :-)

Picked up a bottle of Noah's Mill yesterday to try, tonight it is either that or OF 1920. The other will be for tomorrow.

I've only had the Noah's Mill once (at a friend's herf), but I liked it. Jay. 1920 is delicious as well.

Ben. hope the sampler is extra schmancy. :-)

Good news / Bad news. Good news is the second pour of Whiskey Rick was much better, it opened nicely. The bad news, can't say the same about the second pour of 1792 FP.
